nice little surprise in my change today !

i was at the department store buying a few things, and just happened to look at my change as i was leaving, i have found silver dimes and quarters, war nickels, wheat cents, but this is a first. not a financial windfall, but it definately was an unexpected find !

  • I know the Mint is under budget pressure, but they should at least put some marks on the planchets.
  • Looks like a weak strikeimage

Understanding that not everyone is a collector, I think this goes to show that just about nobody actually pays attention to what the cashier hands back to them. Even if I wasn't a collector I would have set that aside because it was "cool".

Regardless, that is very cool change find!

    An "unstruck" 69-S DDO ?
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

oddly enough some of the cashiers I have spoken to try to get rid of coins that arent the usual cent, dime, nickel or quarter because they say the head cashier will make them replace any weird coinage with their own money.

  • I received a handful of cashier rejects, mostly Canadian cents, but included a clad dime blank and a cent planchet.

i thought the pic was clear enough but a little explanation wouldnt hurt, its a type two copper coated zinc blank planchet, 38.6 gn on the digi, just a "smidgen" under the diameter of a penny.

  • I once found a blank planchet in a roll of unc. cents. I forget right now what year it is but at least I know what the year and mint mark should have been. I kept it in the roll I found it in and placed it on the end of the tube. Good eye to catch it, good pick up.
