*Now with photos*Need some advice... 68-72 vintage /urgent/

What is the most I should spend on a "mint" "unsearched" lot of cards like this. I have someone locally (sending me a breakdown and pictures now *will update thread in a couple minutes)

The guy wants $1000

He says most of the bigger name stars are there, including a hank aaron auto on a 71 or 72 card, as well as a mays on a 71 or 72, fisk and a couple others.

He said he has about 6 people interested, and I know there are some pretty major vintage buyers locally.

From what he said MOST of the stars will be there, no Ryan rookie, no mantles, but like hank aaron mays most of that.

He says the condition is extremely nice and mentioned 2 Munson RCs.

Will post an update with photos/the details in a bit.

-Sean

This was some very useful information, I will consider this before making my purchase.

Sounds like you are getting the "hard sell". Other's interested, gotta move now! Sounds like an infomercial.

Things are probably not as mint as advertised and the autos may or may not be real. Only the pictures will tell. Tread carefully, don't rush into anything.
  • Yah I know, i've dealt with this guy before... The cards have nice corners but 99% of them are extremely OC... and they are in top loaders without sleeves *sob

If he is local I would tell him that you will meet him at a local public place (Starbucks?), look at the cards and if you like them you will hand him a GRAND (or whatever you think they are worth) in CASH.

  • Only person I recognize (signature size) is mays, and it doesn't look good.

I don't know much about 70s baseball but if you think the deal is too good to be true you should tread with caution.

looks like some of the "nicer" cards have questionable auto's...

Exactly, I saw some pretty nice shape ones, but most are OC or have messed up corners etc
  • bkingbking Posts: 3,095 ✭✭
Adding in the 69's, I don't see enough to get you near $1000 unless the scans are deceptive re: corners. Caveat: I got no knowledge when it comes to the autos.

  • Ya, he made it sound alot better than it looks. He is gonna price on me on each "lot" individually, but as with most people... They thing their cards are the ****

70s cards really aren't my thing but if you think you can make some money on the deal then you should go for it.

Don't think so, told him I'd be interested at around 400, and tbh i don't think that can be considered a lowball seems pretty fair imo for the condition and only a few of the stars there.

    The Mays Auto is AUTOPENED

  • << <i>The Mays Auto is AUTOPENED >>

Figured it was that or fake, doesn't look anything near what I have, and have seen.
  • Downtown1974Downtown1974 Posts: 6,876 ✭✭✭✭✭
Nice lot, but no way for a grand. $400 seems a bit low though. If you can get it for that, you will do very well IMO.
  • Just to expand on what CD said, I don't know much about 70s baseball but if you think the deal is too good to be true you should tread with caution, but if you think you can make some money on the deal then you should go for it. Sounds like pretty solid advice to me.

70's stuff really isn't my thing but the correct amount for you to pay for that lot is $462.72

That's a lot of information for an "unsearched" lot.
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts
  • You'd be better off paying closer to $100 than a $1000 in my opinion.

$300 and tell him to keep the autographs if he wants. Dont let them be a part of what he considers value.

I agree with gameusedhoop. No need to rush.
  • He seems to think these cards are gods gift for man, and seemed to try and super rush me to buy them, I know there are several vintage buyers where I am, but all of them educated, figure I'd make him a pretty fair offer (in my eyes) which is the 400.

He just texted me, he sold everything but the 70's for 650 somehow.

Sounds like someone has skin in this game....
  • I mentioned that I believe the mays to be not authentic, and hes like "I've got a coa don't bs me"

They probably listened to Lee's advice: Someone though they could make some money on the deal and then went for it.

One thing is for sure, Lee is smart people.

Atleast you didn't really get your skin in the game, once you do that it's over.
  • I didn't care to talk with him after the coa comment... He didn't like it when I told him anyone can print up a CoA and sign it (or just print one up). I trust others here opinion on autos much more than mine.

If he'd take $200 for the the 70's I'll consider doing it.
