    << <i>

<< <i>This has been a quiet week regarding the NCAA. I think baseball's moved up opening day really stepped on the final 4 hype. Too bad since college hoops is my favorite. >>

I honestly forgot about it until a couple nights ago... really not too interested in the Final Four this year. >>

Don't feel bad. I couldn't have cared less about the Final Four during 1999-2010. This year is different; wanna guess why? image

    Butler v. Uconn.

    Let's get it on!

    I am rooting for Butler.

By the way, loved the intro at the beginning of the Butler game. They said something like "the first school from Indiana to go to back to back final fours...." Was that a knock at IU or what!?

What's the early line on this one? Uconn by a few?

Yep, it's now my wife's (and yours) Red Sox turn. But we sure had a hell of a surprising run, eh? But come 2012, we gonna win it all the way!! image

    Interesting tidbit at ESPN.com:

"Just 881 out of more than 5.9 million Tournament Challenge brackets picked the Butler-Connecticut national title game matchup.

Overall, just 4,325 brackets (0.07 percent) have Butler winning the championship, and only 11,326 had the Bulldogs even reaching the title game.

In contrast, 4.7 percent of brackets (279,308) have UConn winning it all, with 9.3 percent (551,236) having the Huskies in the title game. UConn was the fifth-most popular pick to win it all before the tournament, ranking behind only the four No. 1 seeds.

In addition to the 881 brackets that got both games right, another 560,799 got one of two games right. A total of 9.48 precent of brackets got at least one of two national title game participants. "

I joined the ESPN pick em contest. I have 10 entries. On one entry I took the favorite in every game to see how good the NCAA Committee does in placing the teams in the proper slot. Even with all the upsets it is the entry with the highest score for me. DISCLAIMER: I suck at making picks.

Uconn by 3.5 appears to the line. I think I would take Butler on that line if I were a gambler.

I hope Butler wins on Monday, for multiple reasons, one if which is the fact that I really, really like Butler's mascot [an actual bulldog that is decked out in Butler colored attire and that attends Butler games].

I grew up in Denver and remember at Colorado University football games its mascot [a Buffalo named Ralphie] would be released into the stadium [with harnesses and about a dozen strong young men holding on tight to leather straps attached to the harness] to run along along the field as the CU team took the field. I remember one time when Ralphie was running so fast and hard that many of his handlers could not keep up with him. The fell, held on and were taken for a drag.

If Colorado ever developed a basketball programs that sent a team to the Final Four, it would be very interesting to see if Ralphie could run on the basketball floor as the CU team took the floorimage

Have any of the "experts" picked Butler to win? I have to imagine Coach Stevens will use all that negativity in his favor!

Did anybody hear on Mike and Mike where the one assistant's mom (I am spacing on the guy's name) who is English (and knows nothing about basketball) picked Uconn over Butler before the tourney. Too funny. She may or may not know about English league soccer but knows nothing about American College Basketball. Good stuff.

Oh ya, and I am rooting for Butler because I like the underdog! image

just my two cents: that was the worst played final I have ever seen. Certainly, Butler was nowhere near final-four good, but neither was Conn. Too bad the worst game was saved for last image

Barndog, I totally agree with you. I'm not a big college basketball fan but that was not a good game.

Well, congrats to the Huskies! imageimage

Agreed, that was an ugly final -- but better to win ugly than lose pretty.

Also, I think Calhoun was secretly cheering when the Women choked against ND in the semi-finals on Monday.

That was an ugly game. As horrible as Butler was shooting... UConn left them in the game. Horrible. A win is a win though. Glad I am not a gambler as I really liked the 3.5 points. Shows how little I know!

The championship game was a total dog. Neither team played a good game. Both teams were horrible offensively, though U Conn played much better in the second half.

Perhaps it was the jitters that hurt both squads offensively. Perhaps both teams just played great defense.

In any event, the game is what it is. Congrats to U Conn for taking the title. Congrats to Butler for making it to the final game two years in a row.
