Home Metal Detecting

I REMEMBER MY FIRST METAL DETECTOR

My first metal detector was a GOLDAK, a company that is still in business but no longer makes metal detectors. My friend and I use to go to Fredericksburg VA and look for Civil War bullets. He would follow in back of me and pick up stuff that my metal detector missed. His metal detector (a METROTEK) was lighter, flimsier, and cheaper than mine but he would find more items then I did. I've since moved on to GARRET, FISHER, TECKNETICS, and MINELAB. And now, even finding a piece of trash is still fun for me.

I remember getting mine from Radio Shack some 36 years ago. I think i paid $17 or 18 bucks for it. Didnt find much with it but had fun. I since moved on to Garrett and While and still happy. Happy Hunting all ( when the snow melts image )
  • My first was a C-Scope , a very early C- Scope. Easily 25 to 30 years ago.My years detecting were in Scotland and quite remarkable,my brothers and sisters still continue the hobby finding early milled and hammereds regularly.
Now i'm in the US i tried out an old bounty hunter but between the insects and weather gave up after one season.I'd thought about purchasing an updated model for another crack at it , i have a forum's montly most silver found avatar somewhere for that one season so the stuff is out there.

I don't see C-Scopes on the market these days so i don't know if they are in business today.American company i think , or thought.

Mine was a White's Classic 1 around 1992. Upgraded to a Spectrum XLT around '96. Had a DFX for a few months in '06 and am now sporting an E-Trac since '09.

I have not been in the MD hobby for as long as many of you. My first was a DFX after learning on a friends machine at beaches in NC. I still have the DFX, along with a V3, Dual Field, GMT, TDI and Detector Pro. This can be an addicting hobby. Cheers, RickO
  • Mine was a whites liberty 2 in 1986. It took 8 AA batteries and had 2 knobs. On/off switch and disc. Very first target dug ever was an 1895 indian cent. I was hooked. That was actually a decent beginner detector. 1.5 years later I got a whites 6000 DiPro. That changed everything for me.

Like a couple of others here, mine was a radio shack model- don't remember what it was called, it was a little orange thingy if I remember. Best find was a 46 Rosie if I remember right, found alot of pennies off my parents front porch with it, but not many wheats.
