Trick question? Eagles. Silver ikes are a half-step above 40% halves. To me, at least.

    No I wasn't being tricky...
If you were to put some silver away and was able to buy it at melt... Which one would you want and why???

    Thanks!

I can't say I've ever seen circumstances where there is no premium on eagles. So that kind of skews my answer.

    But I'll try.

If you're diversifying a large portfolio, we're talking tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars, and there is no difference in premium between the various vehicles, and you definitely want physical, I'd go with monster boxes of BU eagles.

If you're concerned about SHTF, I'd go with a mix of eagles and 90% bags.

    Aren't the brown IKEs proof?

I'd go with the ASE because I prefer 999 and it would be also a matter of space for me.
I like the IKE dollars but I agree with Weiss, they are a little above 40% silver.

I tried selling some silver Ike's once, go with the ASE's

I have dont this as well - it can be a bear.

However, you can always get good money for ASEs, and usually even a premium!

ASE's---easier to figure their value, easier to store, easier to sell, and a far more attractive design.

ASE's for silver stash. Easy to sell, as stated earlier premium usually when selling.

Example, I just sold 13 oz silver content of 40% JFK's & War nickles for $270 shipped. About $85-90 discount on silver weight.

ASE's. Much better looking coins. Ike's are ugly.

No question ASEs. ASEs have always carried a premium and are probably the most liquid silver out there. Ikes can be had for less than melt and are difficult to sell

    Hands down...ASE's

I bought some 40% silver Ikes not long ago, but it sure wasn't for the bullion aspect. I just wanted some.image

If you're wanting bullion, ASEs or 90% silver coinage are really my top picks.

I think it will depend on what kind of collecting you do.
If you are stacking silver for the store of metal value
for easy liquidation only. Then definitely I would and do go
    with the American Silver Eagles.

If you enjoy the Numismatic end of collecting and possibly
Varieties then I would go with the Eisenhower's
They are the most under studied coin ever
There has only been serious study of the series in the past few years and there
are new discoveries being made all the time.
Not to mention that there are more Eisenhower PCGS Registry sets
than ANY other Dollar coin There is a reason for that.

But you definitely have to have some thick skin when collecting
Eisenhower's there are many that seriously look down on the series.
And question your sanity for collecting them.
But those that have been collecting them for quite awhile
just quietly smile and continue to collect what they enjoy

There is one member of this board that is an Ike collector
who has the goal of having a "Box Of Twenty" that are Eisenhower Discovery Coins
He only has 7 to go image
