Carolus III 8 reales: original surfaces nice colonial

Most of these type coins come obviously cleaned and ugly........I am not sure why that is.

While a common coin and type, finding an original speciman takes a little effort......

A nice one can be had for several hundred dollars.......at least for now.

Very nice coin. I have an ANACS AU50 1806 Bolivian 8R. Looks a lot like your coin.

That is a really nice speciment... the 'gills' TomB refers to, appear to be surface cracking... almost like stress cracks. Interesting. Cheers, RickO

Those surface 'cracks' (for want of a better word) are pretty common on this type. This is one we handled a year or two ago:

I have always been told that I am related to Carolus III through my mother's side. One section of the Spanish Bourbon ruling family went off to govern Sicily and Naples, and I am related through that line of the Bourbon family. Unfortunately, I can see some vague resemblance in the nose area ............
