1976 Vending Case on Ebay

Any guesses as to what it will go for? Bought from BBCE. I bid $9201 and quickly got outbid. I have a snipe set but I'm afraid it isn't high enough.

I don't think it's going to go as high as the one the seller refers to in his description. HOWEVER, I do think it will hit $15,000.00. Why do I say that? Just a guess!

  • The 2 feedback bidder on this item could be a shill.
From what I can tell, 707 is the DOLLAR STORE compared to deans_cards. For what that guy charges, if I ever bought anything from him I would expect it to be delivered to me in a frickin' limo.

I thought Felicia bought the one 76 vending case Steve had for sale a couple years ago. Did Steve have more than one? Would love to buy a couple boxes but the case is well outside my price range...

Is that one from another sealed case? $700, though, seems a bit steep for a single box..

Well, if the case goes $15K, that $625 a box.

I bought a 1976 Topps vending box from Steve last year. My hope was to just break even on the box price plus grading fees. Did not even come close. It was fun though.

thanks my friend. I think it's gonna take more than luck though because I'm not going anywhere near 15K. I feel like curt shilling might be in play on this one as well.

I would love to get this though. The challenge would be to see if I could actually keep it sealed for any amount of time. I can see me busting every single one of them, lol.

$600 for a single box is about right, IMO...also, you're usually going to pay a premium for a sealed case. I'd be surprised if the case commands 15K in this market, but it's a sweet case indeed..

Whether or not it's worth 15k (or whether vending boxes are worth 700) depends on whether or not you plan to break it
If you plan to break and grade, I don't see how you can earn back more than 10K
If you plan to keep it sealed, you could turn a profit at some point if you find the right buyer

I think stopping at 9200 was a good move if you would have broken it
If your plan is to open the case and sell the boxes unopened, you could go a little higher

Problem with vending is you can sometimes get lucky buying one box, but it's hard to get lucky with 24

It's got 10 minutes left and I'm interested to see how high it climbs from its current 9k bid. Kinda strange ending a 10k+ item at 4a.m. central though. To each his own though.

Tommy, the question becomes whether or not the seller will decide to give you a second chance offer because the shiller won.

    Just sayin...

Hope you get lots and lots of Eckersleys...

I'm not sure what to make of this. I got a second chance offer this morning for $10,301 so I'm sure that there was a shiller involved, although he disguised it saying he has 2 cases. This price is BELOW BBCE's buy price of $11K. I think I'm gonna get in touch with Steve Hart today and get a little background on this case. Thoughts?

I emailed him already. He usually answers pretty timely. I have a hard time believing that he wouldn't already know about this auction and already done some calling to the seller/research, etc....since it's below his buy price on a fairly rare case of 70's vending.

What's better than ripping one person off for $10k? Ripping TWO people off for $10k!

I hope it's legit, but I wouldn't bank on it.

What the... why did the seller try to sell the case like this... twice?

Is he trying to call a box, a case?
  • corvette1340corvette1340 Posts: 3,384 ✭✭✭
I'm gonna wait on Steve's reply and then do some negotiating with the seller if Steve does know them. I would also get in writing that if it doesn't pass Steve's unopened authentication then I get a full refund and I would most definitely pay with American Express through paypal. He may be legit and just be desperate to sell.

Looks to me like he thought about breaking the case, maybe got told the whole case was the way to go, and ended the auction early to relist.

The auction you posted said he had 24 available at $675

I would think that auction would give someone more confidence that the case is real.

I would think Steve would have had a bid in himself at his own buy price if he thought it was legit. Would probably be an easy $3K+ profit for him. That HAS to tell you something.

prior sales of PSA graded '76 Topps including a PSA 10 Tiant tells me that he knows what's inside and would have busted the darn things himself if he thought it was worth the effort to grade more cards....i think the best days of vending for this issue are behind us unless acquired at a large discount, that and the fact PSA seems to be very strict on this issue for some strange reason.

11K for a 24 count box works out to be only 400 and change per box...I'm surprised he'd even offer you a second chance offer in the first place.

Edit: I will say again, though, that 15K for this case in this market is a real stretch..

Here's a kicker: The listing for the single auction boxes for sale, if memory serves, was lifted from Felicia's Dutch auction listing when she sold single boxes from the 76 case she bought..

Tommy ... glad you didn't get screwed on this box. As soon as I saw he offered you a second chance at a price LOWER than what Steve is BUYING for, I knew it was trouble.

    Good luck at the tables.

I saw the same thing. If his vending boxes were cello wrapped from BBCE, I don't see how he could have a sealed case (or two).

My guess is he's got nothing in his possession
  • For big $ auctions, unless it's a VERY reputable seller, I have tried to pre-negotiate an IN-PERSON exchange. Certified Funds for Item.
For the most part, I don't hear back from them.
