That is not a simple question.... first let's set price parameters. What is your price range? Second, be sure to leave room in the budget for accessories. Third, what type of detecting will you be doing? Dirt, grass, sand, wet sand, salt water, fresh water, prospecting, coin shooting, relic hunting etc? Answer these questions and we can help.... Cheers, RickO
  • basically for dirt, grass, and woods around my parts. i used to live in this old house when i was a kid and had a old whites detector, there must have been a old sore, busstop,or something there a long time ago, because i found hundreds of silver dimes and quarters in that yard
they tore both houses down that was there and its just vacant now.
love to get back in there!!!!!!!!!!
id like to have one of the ones that shows you digitally whats in the ground on the screen, came a long way since my old whites years ago.

White's makes great detectors.. an industry leader and the best customer service in the business. The display detectors read the signal being fed back and based on software make a 'decision' on what is there. Fairly accurate in many cases, but can be easily fooled by some alloys, position in the ground, other targets close by etc. The real axiom is to dig everything and miss nothing. Gold can read in the pulltab range for example.... Cheers, RickO

I used a White's for years and loved their machines!

A lot of people use the Garrett ACE 250 (they also now have an Ace 350). Even though I have never used a Garrett, I hear many positives of the Ace 250 (on dry land).

I agree, the 250 (and now the350 as well), has an enthusiastic following - low price, ease of use, and effective. Certainly not a high end detector, but people find a LOT of stuff with them. Cheers, RickO

  • The Fisher F2 is an excellent machine! Very well priced with bonuses of 2 additional coils!

My Whites V-Sat is older than most coins I find. But it still detects metal!

    I'm happy!

  • I have used the spectrum of detectors and currently own 4, no pun intended by the use of the word spectrum. Out of the 30 or so different models that I have used and some that I still do, I recommend the Garrett GTI 1500. It is easy to use, gives the user a very good idea of what might be under the detected area, and is an all around very versatile detector. I own a Garrett GTI 2500 and 1500, Minelab Explorer XS II, and a Tesora Conquistador (killer on small gold for sure). Choose your poison but choose it well for the detecing conditions for which you have chosen to explore.
