1964 Strongly Doubled-Die Nickel

Happy New Year to all!

Came across this nickel in a jar of pocket change and am having trouble trying to identify it. I see a listing on CONECA for a doubled-die obverse but this one seems to have a spread a little stronger than what is described there. Anyone ever seen one like this?

I fail to see any kind of doubling.

A little in 'Liberty', and the 4 in the date, but nothing I'd call 'strongly'.

As crypto said...your idea of strong and mine are different buddy, nice photos though
    I'll come up with something.

Yea it's a pretty minor one but it does have some splits.

Looks like for 64-p there's only one Coneca listing that's a bus strike (DDO-die-12).
It also has a DDR (DDR-die-55) paired with that DDO so you might look close at the reverse.
LOL... They call the obv a "medium" spread but the reverse is a "light" spread so with that in mind you might need an electron microscope to see it image

    Nice pics!

One of those squeezes was just a "hairs breath" off from the preceding one, it's there alright, but minor in nature. Still a good example to be pulling out of change. Keep looking!

The doubling is minor but it's definitely a doubled die. Neat find.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I agree, I should have used a different word than "strongly" to describe this one! I was thinking the doubling seemed stronger than what was described in CONECA. And unfortunately that alien is some white crud that has landed on the front of the coin. Might try to send it back to its leader with an acetone bath.....
  • It sure is a double die

Yep, neat find... not a major doubling, but there, for sure. Cheers, RickO
  • I, too, think this is from the die, FWIW.

Nice find. It is minor, but its there.

The serifs are split and easy to see.
