PCGS has made some terrific strides and improvements in 2010

1. CoinFacts--I am using it more and more as a reference, especially prior to making coin purchases. It started a bit awkward and clunky and could probably still use some refinements, but it continues to get better.

2. Diamond Collectors Club Membership--This, in part, references back to #1, but I know that several forum members, including myself, have made the suggestion during the past year to bundle CoinFacts with the CC membership. Perhaps it was the plan all along, but at any rate, it makes a lot of sense and makes it easier to justify the subscription for those on the fence.

3. PCGS Price Guide--More and more, in my area of interest (better date gold coins), I am using the price guide. It totally blows away Coin Values, as the former is updated continually, in real time, and coins actually can decline in market value (like in the real world), unlike Coin Values, in which coins never seem to go down in value, even when they do!

4. PCGS Rare Coin Market Report--I do not always have the time to check spot prices and certainly do not always read the report, but it is nice to receive it and read it when I can. I wish they would not fill the "top ten" with multiple grade examples of the same coin, just the grade that "moved" the most so that more coins could be included.

5. The "+" --I am not a huge fan of micrograding, but it seems like an innocuous way to get to the 100 point grading scale without blowing up the 70 point scale that everyone is comfortable with.

6. Lawsuit against the coin docs-- Self-explanatory, but most serious collectors have been burned by doctored coins, at one time or another, and any effort to stop them is in the best interests of the hobby.

Great work, Don. I am hoping that you can top this list in 2011. image

I agree, RYK. And it's good of you to put this up. Too many of us focus on little gripes and PCGS deserves recognition.

The Big One is missing from your list. I think it belongs.

While many of us are not yet using Secure Plus our hope is it becomes the standard and all coins get fingerprinted.

For 2011 I would love to see images associated with cert look-ups. Scratch-proof holders is another. And finally, more progress on holders to thwart counterfeiting.

    Hear, hear for our hosts.

The big challenge for 2011 and beyond is the counterfeit slab. I expect it to get a lot worse.

I have been publicly critical, at times, and will give props when they deserve it, too.

BTW, this is what I am talking about re: Rare Coin Market Report, from today (below). Nine of the ten top gainers are all various grades of a single coin.

    Happy New Year to all...

RYK...Thanks for the kind words. We are going to push even harder in 2011.

One tip re the Top Ten Gainers/Losers listed on daily PCGS Rare Coin Market Report email. Sometimes the top gains (losses) are multiple grades of same coin...just the way it is when you price all grades including pluses. Suggest you click on the "See all gainers (or losers)" link. That'll give you all the day's action.

Coinosaurus...you are absolutely right in my opinion. The number one concern for the rare coin market going forward is Chinese counterfeits coins and slabs. We're on it! And we work on it every day. One way or the other, we will make it very hard for the counterfeiters...and the mules...and the sellers...to make any money screwing with our market.

Thanks to all for the support...it inspires us to work even harder!

Still hoping for PCGS to begin grading Conder and other tokens. I believe there is a market for this service.
