<< <i>VCP gives past sales, not what price a buyer was willing to pay. But rather the price two buyers were willing to pay. Big difference.

    Huh???

Does not VCP provide the latest sales figure of a given card and over time provide a historical record of sales for that card? How can you say VCP provides "past sales"...it is possible that a given card hasn't sold for a couple of years, thus the last sales price would be the most current data available. I can assure you, VCP provides much more than past sales info. As time passes, the value of cards will fluctuate.

Not sure if I get the two buyers thing. Most folks snipe, which simply means one guy outbid the other in the last few seconds. The winning bidder of course may have a top-all bid in and would win the card at any cost. If there are at least two bidders, surely somebody has to come up short by a few bucks. I just don't get your logic and would like to read your explanation for the post.

BTW, has anyone noticed how PSA has now been offering to notify you when a particular card comes up that may fit into your Registry set? Sound like the same thing VCP has offered when you create a "wants list" and receive and email notification that the card you've been looking for is now up for bid.

Agree that VCP is a guide...why people get so hung up on that word is beyond me. Think of it this way...would you rather rely on a guide that provides unfounded and inaccurate data, or one that provides current sales information based upon actual eBay and/or auction sales that can be verified?

To the OP...VCP is far from garbage, VERY far. >>

Sorry if I'm not making sense. Just trying to say that VCP shows the winning bid, not how high the winner bid. I agree most people snipe. But to assume that a card that sold for $100 was won by someone that bid only $100 is incorrect. Isn't it much more likely that their bid/snipe was $110, $120, or $150 for that matter? That would be how much the buyer was willing to pay for the card.

So when a seller lists a card over the VCP average, it may not be so crazy to think that they can sell it for VCP average +15% or 25% for example.

For the record, I use VCP every once in a while, but I use the range, as much if not more than the average.

    123slider,
From what has been leaked from time to time....the big auction houses don't mind topping out that top all bid occasionally.image

Anyone who still believes that VCP is the graded card "bible" needs to get re-educated. VCP misses thousands and thousands of graded card auction style listings every single day. That doesn't even include the thousands of BINs and best offers.
If you have VCP and get bored, add about 200 graded cards to your watch list and then go back and check VCP after the auction ends. You can even cross reference recent closed BINs or regular auctions. Results will be the same.

Yes I am one of the morons that paid for a yearly membership but I assure you that it will not happen again. Fool me once......

Clearly you have never owned your own business. Tell you what: why don't you take 5 years out of your life to put all your money, time and sweat into something, then see how it feels when someone comes on a public forum to dismiss your efforts as "garbage". Obviously VCP misses some auctions, but overall it's a pretty good resource for general pricing information. In the end it comes down to the seller in determining where to price his cards, but mindless drones like you need a "bible" to tell them exactly how to price their stuff and what to pay for cards will never be satisfied because that resource will never exist. How about this fact: VCP is the closest thing to accurate and current pricing information in the sportscard market EVER. Name one that's better, past or present. Until something better is out there, there really isn't any room for anyone to complain. You don't think it's worth the money? Then don't pay the fee. I fail to see what coming here and bashing them publicly will accomplish other than fulfill your need to bring down someone's business because it doesn't meet your lofty standards. When you have a bad burger at Wendy's do you stand on the corner shouting "Wendy's is garbage"?

Yes there are errors and omissions. Yes, Bobby's business tactics are questionable. But for what it's worth, it's obviously a small operation and I think he's done a very good job with it for the most part. And even if I didn't I wouldn't come on here and tell everybody his business sucks. There's only one piece of garbage in this thread and it's the OP.

Just like Bobby did to cardpricer yesterday and has done numerous times?

    << <i>Obviously VCP misses some auctions >>

Maybe you missed my first comment. If they missed almost all of my auctions in the last month, how many more are they missing? How many BINs or best offers go unrecorded? 50%? 75%? More?

    Agreed.

Thought I was having an intelligent conversation. Guess I was wrong.

I wouldn't have even noticed VCP's regular ommissions if 2 cards I sold a few months ago weren't recorded by VCP. Both were more than triple the highest price previously recorded and both were regular auction style listings.
  • Ever since eBay changed their listing format several month back by eliminating the graded card sections we had to adjust our search parameters. We are always adjusting it to try to capture as much information as we can. So by members informing us of missing auctions it helps us make the changes to our scripts in order to get the listings we are missing. So Mdberry if you can contact me on VCP and provide me with the listing you say we missed we can look into why and make it better. On another note we are currently tracking over 110,000 auctions in our system waiting to end and post to the site which at the same time last year was in the 60,000 range. Again we understand we can never be perfect but we try our best to get as much information possible for you to use.

I'm not going to even bother putting SMR down.

It sounds like Bobby and his staff are working hard at putting the best source of information out....and they are succeeding. I don't understand the argument. Ebay has made it difficult to do what VCP is doing well. Kudos to VCP.

Just to add: I am not a VCP member because I collect mostly Mantle, Mays and Aaron...no VCP needed for those cards.

Although I have never used VCP I have been impressed by Bobby from day one coming on here to deal with any and all concerns, never ducking an issue. It seems he is improving his business steadily. I do agree it is usually not wise to bad mouth the competition. Better to let others do that and if the competition is defective someone will. At least Bobby didn't take out an alt to bash his competition.

I don't know but ask Bobby why he did in this thread to his competition.

<< <i>I think there may be one or two members here that are on Cardpricer and just wondering if they are even updating the site anymore? I just read some of their forums and there is no response to members questions for about 6 months now. And just saw this posted today:

"Most prices are over a year old. Links to Ebay don't work. Common sets not listed. The only thing that works is the money collecting for using this neglected site. What a joke."

If they are not keeping up on their service then they should stop charging or shut it down. >>

  • I posted it to see if they are still in business and that is it. I did not bad mouth them it was done on their own forums so after reading it was curious to whether or not they where still live or not.

I don't think he was bashing them, he asked a question and quoted a comment that was made by one of their members on their forum. He did say that they should stop receiving money for a service that they are no longer apparently providing, but I agree with him on that.

I'm sure your intentions were 100% in good faith, Bobby. However, don't you think it would have been more appropriate to email the company?

Posting someone's comment of "Most prices are over a year old. Links to Ebay don't work. Common sets not listed. The only thing that works is the money collecting for using this neglected site. What a joke." in the OP was beyond tacky, regardless of your intentions.
