It has been a while. New addition 1836 Classic Head $5 -- Grade Revealed!
Hello all. I haven't posted anything in almost a year - I got a new job overseas almost a year ago and have only recently found time for my coins. I hope everyone is having a great holiday season.
I was back home last week and picked this little beauty up. Let's guess the grade while we're at it!

<< <i>Nice looking coin! I'll guess it's an AU55, but 58 wouldn't surprise me in the least. >>
I love Classic Head gold, especially the eagle. Mind you, it's usually too rich for my blood, but I've owned a couple pieces over the years. An ANACS EF40 1834 $5 is about the best I've done in that arena (and it was low-end for the grade). I couldn't touch a coin like yours on my budget, probably not even in my better days.
I still own a quarter eagle (holey) on my Holey Gold hat.
One of these days I'd love to own a Classic Head goldie with a nice little mintmark over the date.
PS- upon looking at your coin in the OP a second time, I must say, I really wish I could see it in hand and turn it to let the luster catch the light. I'll bet it's sensational in hand. It looks like it has some nice frost, as I think somebody else mentioned.
Collector since 1976. On the CU forums here since 2001.
The grade PCGS gave this coin is AU50. I think this is definitely an upgrade contender.
