All I can say is wow, what a book!!!!

It's all there, the history, the stories, and yes, the photos!!

Wonder if Longacre has this one sitting on his over-stuffed library chair. image

IMHO this is one of the most overlooked areas of our website!

Wonderful book in many many ways. I still have my original copy.... somewhere.

Believe it or not, I picked this book up on Ebay last year - for $17!!!!! It was auctioned as a used book, but it was a fabulous shape, with only a slight and very small lifting of the decal on the cover - easy to glue down!

If you spent enough money in that sale, you were sent a complimentary copy. Luckily I had to buy mine.image

That's pretty cool that they've included that the book for free online. I own that book from an ANA bookstore sale and got it for a great price. I have to say that even though it's free online, I'm glad to have the physical copy in hand. The book itself is very large, printed on nice glossy pages, and has beautiful pictures. I like having it hand.

But, heck if I couldn't have it in hand, my hats off to PCGS for giving away the content.

I'm also envious of those that didn't have to hunt down a copy of Breen's Proof book which they also provided for free!!!

The chapter on 20th Century collections is the best overall treatment of collectors and collections for this period. It makes fascinating reading for anyone interested in the hobby as it developed into a commercial entity.

I'll have to check that out on my day off.

I read it cover to cover a few years ago. Perhaps re-reading it in 2011 is in the offing. It is a university course in Numismatics. image
