Red Book Apple iPad version...not now brown cow...

I think the Red Book would be great on the iPad but I guess not in the near future...

Thank you for your inquiry to Whitman Publishing, LLC. At this time we do not have plans to produce the “Red Book” in an Apple iPad version.
I will forward your request on to our production department. Please let me know if you have any additional questions. Thank you again for your inquiry.

Thank you,

  • I'm speaking from pure ignorance here because I have no idea what media form the Red Book is available in? I'm guessing paper only. It would be easy enough to scan to a pdf file however that's one of those things where if you shared it you'd likely have some copyright lawyers showing up at your door.

No reason in this day and age why any published book shouldn't be in some form of digital media.

I think you're right, a PDF would spread like wildfire.

Kindle or apple bookstore would be pretty cool, though, and allow viewing on iphone/ipad.
  • Just get the PDF, good enough.

There are scanned PDF versions of the Red Book on the Internet, what isn't?...but I want a legal version and want to pay for it; even full price.

I understand what you're saying. I pay for all my music and software and digital media these days. In your case I'd have no qualms about buying a Red Book and downloading a pdf copy. At least then you've paid for the resource. Just downloading it is wrong though.

All books will eventually be available in an e-reader format.

How accurate is the redbook for pricing? I like Heritages auction price records.

I don't use the Red Book for pricing; I use it for dreaming.

As nice as that would be, I'll take having wireless internet access on my ipad/tablet pc over the actual reference. Having instant access to thousands of reference points is nice.

image Good general knowledge for dreaming and quick reference. Price guide is useless. I buy one every 10-15 years.

  • For the record I did not mean illegally...I assumed the book was available in all formats since his request for the IPAD version and the Apple response was specifically about an ipad version as opposed to a general digitized version. made it sound like it was available in other computer versions. I was just merely pointing out that if it exists in a PDF format then it would work in the IPAD just like that since PDFs are a universal format as opposed to an IPAD APP version which is what I thought he was hoping for. I have an ipod and everything has to be an app except pictures or music so I asumed an app was being requested. But since the IPAD has USBs you can do pdfs from a stick or other device.
  • I own this:

    Krause World Coins on DVD

And have it on my laptop and was going based on that. I assumed MOST such books came on DVD/CD.

Your idea to Whitman was a good one...they're reply that it's not in the cards, is a bad one. IMO.

Maybe Whitman Publishing does not see any economic advantage/incentive to an e-Red Book but I
    think YNs would like it.

It will eventually come to the point where no one will buy anything but an e-reader of a book. I myself am very close to that point.

The best factual answer to the OP's question will come from Dennis Tucker, publisher at Whitman. (Dentuck) here on these boards. Steveimage
