On my personal page there is no mention of coins, but I do have coin friends.

    Same here.

I would say that Facebook offers the same time-wasting opportunities that Tetris did when I was in grad school, and Fusbal did when I was in college.

I have made some terrific connections and especially reconnections with old friends on FB. One of them culminated with my son and I being invited to a Steelers game by a friend that I lost contact with about 30 years ago!

If you seriously delve into the mysterious abysses of farcebook you can find controls that let you block certain people from seeing posts etc. Frankly for me that has mostly been applied to "family"! I have a "Coins" folder that is just people that I know from here and from collecting in general, and all they usually see is coin stuff. A lot of my farcebook posts are in Russian(1st language at home) so they are meaningless to all but my Russian speaking family and friends.

Never ever post pictures of anything you don't want someone to see, we see in news almost everyday about some idiot posting pictures of something on farcebook and it getting them fired or something.

<< <i>Here's the photo from my Facebook page. image I just finished climbing a mountain between Kabul and Jalalabad when this little Afghan girl came begging for food and water. Can you imagine your young daughter being next to a strange man with 210 rounds of 5.56 ammo around his waist... with 30 locked and loaded?

That is a seriously cool picture, and what a story. Obviously she knew enough to not fear you as much as the crazy bearded guys with AK-47s that she was probably used to seeing. Kind of reminds us why you are there in the first place, for little girls like her to have hope and a future.

I definitely utilize Facebook. Like many of you it allows me to let my friends and family know how my son is doing...as well as allowing me the opportunity to communicate easily with many people at one time in regards to other things that might be going on.

I have a facebook page that I find to be quite awkward. I have professional and business contacts that should be addressed formally. I have family which should be addressed in a Missouri dialect (and not a Ladue accent as RYK would be familiar with). Also, many of my relatives are very Christian and would probably have involuntary contractions of heart muscle (and not in a good way) if I commented on many of Saintguru's posts, so I have to hold my wit and wisdom there.

As a result, I don't post much. I post a few bland things to let people know I'm still alive, often so bland I don't even get comments. Often I post about golf, which isn't very popular with my facebook friends.

But I read a lot (I skim over the "what I had for breakfast" posts) and have found lots of friends from high school and college that I had lost contact with. When I want to communicate with them, I generally send them a direct message. I enjoy knowing that one of my high school friends is now a smooth DJ on a radio station in the ozarks that covers football games at my rural high school while another friend has two facebook pages--one for the stage name that he took as a news anchor on a medium size "city" in Kansas. I've found pictures of friends from high school which remind me of things I thought were long forgotten.

Last night I was in a debate with a girl I dated in high school (when I was 17 and she was 14) but haven't seen since and when she retorted "Bite Me" I replied, "I already have" to which she had no reply.

Any of you who want to find me can do so easily with a search.

  • ah yep.. I got tired of talking to people I hadn't talked to in 30 years. Fun at first then it got too weird, I felt like I was being stalked because of my crazy kid. Chip off the ol block I guess. different people asking the same questions over and over. I turned off everything and haven't looked back.

My first cousin made me join three years ago - never went back to it until
about a year ago - when friends pushed me into it again.

I only wanted to stay in close touch with family - but as the above poster mentioned
people I barely knew from High School are in contact with me wanting me to befriend
them. [ Many of which I wasn't friends with forty years ago. ]. I did connect with a couple
of old friends - but I'm there more for a family connection rather than social.

Facebook has been a boon for family stuff. We were able to find long lost relatives that moved to the other side of the country in 1960, and it led to having our first ever family reunion this past summer. Even if nothing else good ever came of Facebook (which it does) that alone makes it all worth it in my book.

It's funny...I'm friends with more than 50 people I went to school with...but I almost never have any interaction with them. They never comment on my stuff, and they really don't post much. Most of the interaction on there for me is with fellow scale model builders. I would say a good 90 to 95% of interaction is models, the other 5 family. Everything else is less than 1%.
