64 was the first thing that popped into my head.
Maybe 65. The toning is o.k. but I wouldn't pay a premium for it.

NT and gorgeous! And I don't see anything that should hold it back from making 65.

If I were to submit it, it would come back as a 64... therefore, I say 64.

I just checked the Price Gude. What are the pluses? +

They must have changed the grading system when I wasn't looking. image

I'll guess 64 based on the cheek, but I'm seldom right about these things. image

Too much chatter on the cheek for a 65, toning is neutral to me. A decent coin.

I actually like the toning on this Morgan and it would be worth a premium to me.

It looks like a solid 64 to my eye.

I say 64, as others have said, the cheek is the limiting factor. Naturally toned, IMO.

    Not a chance for a 65.

    strict 63, most likely a 64.

    Todd,
I like the reverse toning a lot. Knowing nothing about Morgans, I will guess 65.

    I'm not a toning fan.

I'm not a "lots of scuffs on cheek" fan either, so I'll say it should be no higher than MS63.
    When in doubt, don't.

    +1

The hits on the eyebrow, in the hair above the ear and the bit of scuffiness on the cheek and nose tip I think will keep it out of a 5 Holder but it certainly a PQ64 and while the toning pattern obverse to reverse is strange it doesn't look AT to me.

The fields are remarkably clean but the cheek has way to many hits to be a MS65.
    I would call it a MS64.

the toning is very nice, and of course it would command a nice premium.

63+ or 64 due to cheek chatter. Nice color, nice coin, common date.

I don't like the color to be honest. While I am sure it has a market for that look, I would call it AT as it isn't in the 3 or 4 most commen patterns and color combos for the type and move on to the next coin to be graded if I was doing the grading.

While the colors are not in strict keeping with Sunnywood's progression, the pull-away effect is seen around the stars and date and that helps me decide if it is NT.

Well- can I add my 2 1/2 cents for a moment.

what I see from your photo shows a nice amount of luster, that might be a bit diffused by the lighting (could be wrong), the marks on the cheek look to be partial frost breaks along with the type of friction one might find from a bag toned Morgan. The reverse is like a kaleidoscope of coloring that makes the eagle almost look like the NBC peacack.

What I think holds this common date coin back from a grade of 65 or better is in the hairline above the ear, the flattened appearance makes me think this was at the mid point of the process thus making this a mid die state coin, pressure was increased as noticed in the markings on both obv/rev (I love the little ticking under the jowl- looks cool).

Not being an expert- I think with the NT color of this coin- it could grade 65 at either TPG today, but what type of holder is this in?

I like this coin, even if I am the FRANKIEfanatic..

Its a 64. It may get labeled a 65 due to the toning but toning should not factor inot the grade because the desirability of same is subjective so it should be discounted and the coin should grade on its technical merits and the market can decide the value based on its toning. OK I am done now! image
