Looking for advice on this Jordan Rookie

Ok, I will admit I made a huge mistake. I bought this card raw.
Now what do I do with it?

Thanks in advance

After those four National League games, Gorman Thomas was never the same, and neither were the Brewers, and come to think of it neither was I.

Preferably with a ruler on it

It is just a fraction shorter than other 86 Fleer cards I have. I did not realize it at the time of purchase.
So now what. I would feel guilty selling it to someone else without telling them.

Looking back I remember the dealer seemed very nervous about the sale and I would bet he probably trimmed the card himself.
Check and see if PSA will grade it as "Authentic-Trimmed" -- if not, perhaps look at Beckett and SGC to see if they will do the same.
You may be able to recoup your money on this one.
Good luck, and let us know!

The scratches are not on the card.

I do not know the dealer. He also sold me another trimmed card. It was a 1959 Harmon Killebrew. Everything else I got from him was good. But those 2 cards were a real kick in the pants.
Funny thing is right before I bought the Jordan I was at the table of a dealer that I have bought a bunch of stuff from over the years. He has real good reputation. And I was measuring up the cards I bought from him. He even made a comment about how I should just carry a ruler. Then I go to some dealer that I have never seen before and make a huge blunder. Totally out of character for me. But I did it.

Might be worth it to resub it and hope it gets by the grader. Once it's in a PSA holder it's like cash.

All the long time members here are telling you to spend $200+ on grading fees to get this "TRIMMED" card graded as authentic, which is obviously INCORRECT?
I guess this board is FULL OF RIP OFF ARTISTS!!!
WOW, this advice is a TOTAL shock to me, just more sellers added to my blocked bidder list!
YOU SHOULD ALL BE ASHAMED!!! For attempting to pass of a trimmed card as REAL!!!
You will all receive yours!
KARMA!!!
Can't wait to hear your stories where you got burned!
It is well deserved!!! :-)

It is an authentic card, but trimmed.
I don't see the problem with it?
An authentic with no grade obviously means the card has either been altered or trimmed.

Do you understand what an "authentic" grade is? It is when the card is altered but real. What's wrong with that? There are TONS of fake Jordan rookies out there. Nothing wrong with someone knowing that its still the real deal!

There is nothing immoral about getting a card in the right holder.

If it was me, I'd try 1 more time. (unless of course I was 100% sure it was bad.)
After that I'd simply get it into an Authentic holder and eat my losses.

I may go with the Authentic holder and eat the loss.
Lesson learned

This exact card in a PSA 9 holder would be a hell of a lot more desirable to most collectors than it would be in a PSA AUTH holder. So is it a question of buying the holder, not the card? To me that question comes down to eye appeal, and this card obviously has it in abundance.
It's also about responsibility. We are not professional graders. Just because my interpretation of a scan says that the card was likely trimmed doesn't make it so. If a professional PSA grader determines this card belongs in a PSA 9 holder, who are we to argue? There was recently a poster who submitted a Jordan rookie that he got directly out of a pack and it came back as recolored, which it was not. My point is that resubmitting it and hoping it comes back with a number grade is not immoral. It does not make anybody a crook. That's the whole point of third-party grading companies - to have a professional, independent opinion rendered.
You ain't the first person to learn this lesson.
It's a tuition we all pay or have paid.
Steve
<< <i>The scan of the front is not quite as straight, but I got about 5 extra vertical pixels and only 1 extra horizontal pixel. So it might not be trimmed as badly as I thought. Or at least the trimming might not be as evident looking at the front as it is looking at the back.
Might be worth it to resub it and hope it gets by the grader. Once it's in a PSA holder it's like cash. >>
This is what Skilow is talking about. Intentionally trying and hoping to get a altered card by the graders. TPGing was originally meant to help protect "US" the collector. It's a shame that now the very people that the system was meant the protect from fraud are the same ones now trying to scam the system out of sheer greed. This also contributes to undermining the legiticmacy of the TPGing system.
John
<< <i>I don't think skilow was addressing the fact that the card could be in an Authentic holder. >>
I see now what, I think, skilow is talking about.
Trying to get an altered card to pass just isn't right.
If you really believe the card isn't trimmed give it one more try.
Honestly I'd just put on the PSA form that you're looking for an "Authentic -- Trimmed" grade.

Oh yeah, right, it's all about protecting us, not about making money for the grading companies.
Here, have some more Kool Aid.

I dont know, maybe if I was a sneak, I wouldn't have shown the card to this board ... First, you would have set up a 1986 Fleer rip & say you got it in the pack, even though 3 other Jordans already came out of the box. Then, once it came back trimmed, you could have got the board to back you up & have a good grade forced on the card.
Also, be sure not to show the other cards from the pack, because obviously, you would not be sure of the run & the the consistant cut would not be there as well :-)
But thats just if I was a sneak, which I am not, so you are out of luck

<< <i>That card would look great signed by Jordan. I would then have the signature graded by PSA/DNA. If I was to sell the card, I would make a disclaimer that the card came back EOT from PSA prior to having the card signed. >>
How would you suggest getting Jordan to sign. He does not do card shows and if you send into UD he does not sign cards. I guess you could try to send a kid to one of his camps but you would end up spending more money than just buying a legit RC would cost in an 8 or 9.
In other words...calm down man.
