Shipping valuable items to foreign countries

To those of you who ship merchandise overseas, which is your preferred method, what does it cost, and why? I ask because some Latin American countries impose very high taxes on imported items, such as electronics. Ie., if you bought a Garmin or an Iphone in Brasil or Argentina, you would pay more in import taxes than you would pay for the item itself.

Feel free to send a PM if you wish.

I shipped 6 figure and high 5 figure coins overseas in the last 90 days, several times and bought ryders from my insurance person. In one case the ryder was almost $1,000 ( a good business! ). Used the US Postal Service as Fedex would not accept them because of the receiving country's policy's.

I ship high value coins with no problems. However, the import duties are what they are. Insurance and reliable shipping is available at a cost but import laws in these countries and import duties must be investigated to ensure your shipment isn't returned or cost the recepient lots of money. these countries make these laws just to keep you from shipping things in. The licensed importers probably paid a large kickback for their license and they must be protected. --Jerry
  • Highest value thing I shipped oversees was a large clump of shipwreck 8-Reales to Britain. Worth ~$5000, and weighed about 3 lbs.

I used Fedex. Cost about $200.
