I went cherry picking in Redding, Cal. yesterday.

A buddy of mine who practices in LA has an out of state bank client who obtained ownership of an eight unit apartment building in Redding, Cal. a few months ago. The place needs serious rehab work. Four of the eight units are vacant and boarded up, four are occupied by persons claiming to be tenants of the former owner [though they have no proof of a rental agreement or ever paying rent, so they may just be squatters].
My buddy filed eviction lawsuits against the people living in the four units. I pinch hit for my LA buddy and appeared at status conferences in all four cases yesterday. I settled all four cases after spending about 4 hours negotiating with the tenants.
I got out of the courthouse about 2:15 p.m. PDT and hopped in my car. Instead of getting on I-5 for a long trip home [about 210 miles] I did smoe on line research for Shasta County coin shops. Found a couple that were on a road that runs next to I-5. Figured what the heck, how about smoe cherry picking.
Stopped by the first shop. Big, bright and very nice. Coins, jewelry and bullion. Looked through stuff I am interested in, including early MS Lincolns for my Lincoln Dansco, proof sets and US Type Set coins.
Unfortunately the shop had very few MS early Lincolns [some 1909 VDB cents that were not very attractive and that would be of low MS grade was about it]. Nothing to fill holes in my 7070 Type Set either. The pre 1965 proof sets were all ho hum and very "widgety".
I did look at a 1969 proof set. To thank the shop owner for letting me snoop at his inventory I bought the 1969 proof set. The nickel in the set is a two sided, black and white monster DCAM. A very nice coin, even if it is one that will likely never fund my kid's college tuition, but I could probably sell it to a Jefferson proof collector for what I paid for the set. I would then have the remaining $0.36 in non silver coins from the set, plus the value of the 40% silver half as a profit
The second shop was just down the road and as I drove to it, I had visions of scoring many cherries.
Unfortunately, when I arrived at the shop I read a sign on the door saying the shop was closed until after the new year because the owner had left to "go fishing".
Bummer, not only did I mis out on smoe possible cherries, I also missed out an a possible invitation from the shop owner to go fishing with him
I then left and got back on I-5 at about 3:10 p.m. for the long ride home, with my newest cherry in tow.
So now my cherrypicking of California coin shops has extended to the far northern end of the Sacramento Valley. Maybe I will next push farther north to Weed, California and the Oregon border.

Interesting how a long ago incorrect spelling of the word "some" as "smoe" has resulted in "smoe" having a life of its own of the forums. People use "smoe" in threads around here constantly.
I kind of like it. Saying "I want some coins" just does not sound as good as saying "I want smoe coins".
Nice find on the proof jeff in dcam.
