  • << <i>I feel your pain. You got screwed. But instead of taking your issue up with those who "Screwed" you, you WHINED here on PCGS. SOUR GRAPES and WHINE lead to a nice wine vinagrette salad dressing. Don't think that I'm against you. Just believe that I've got great empathy for you because "I've been there". It sucks to be us. But I have no sympathy for you're mistake because I've been there and Noone ever gave a crap for me. Now do you know where I'm coming from? You live, you learn. Get over yourself already! Cheers! >>

So because this has happened to you before you dont have any sympathy??? Thats pretty sad. Then "You live, you learn. Get over yourself already". How about you live, you learn, and you warn others. You obviously found this thread late. Did you read the whole thing or just jump into the middle. The OP never took the position of whining, he simply told his story which is what the messages boards are all about. He has stated numerous times that he knows that he didnt have to sell. It is pretty easy to be you right now taking your rigid approach since you are not the one who is out anything. In fact if you are so bothered by the OP whining then why are you wasting time replying to this yourself?

If it was $2, or $2,000, it doesn't matter. It's not the amount the OP is upset with. It's the fact that the price quote changed. When the transaction took place and money was exchanged for goods, it was a done deal. Regardless of anything else. The deal was done. The OP isn't happy (understandable), and misery loves company .

    p.s. Thanks Kirk.

I am very sorry that nobody was there for you when you got screwed and nobody cared. Maybe if you knew about the problem or read about it before you were screwed, you could have avoided it.

    Edit for blank post
  • I would have walked, but I don't think you're whining, you didn't have time to think the decision over, you assumed you were being treated fairly, but you weren't, particularly as a regular customer. I think it's good to get the shop's name up here.

    In defense of Monarch Coin;

We used to buy and sell some pretty large quantities of gold and silver with them. 4 or 5 years ago one of our employees made a mistake that would have resulted in us being paid for 5 or 6 gold eagles less than what was actually delivered. They contacted us to make it right. They easily could have not said anything and kept the gold.

In no way am I trying to justify the "Lock" issue, just wanting people to know that they are not the blood sucking vampires portrayed in some of the posts.

Are they the perfect shop with glowing customer service? Not always. If it was my shop, would I change some things? Sure.
I used to be somebody, now I'm just a coin collector.

I used to travel to SLC quite often and Monarch was one of my first stops!

I bought my MS63 Trade $ from them some years back.

I'm a little disappointed to hear a story like this.....

The prices of gold had been rising since Friday from $1373 and peaked early Tuesday morning around $1408/oz. By the time the OP was in the store the price apparently had fallen by about $15. My guess is the store owner was afraid of the further downside risk and just covered his butt no matter how far gold would drop that day. It ended up rebounding from that exact point and finished out the day above $1400. A $15 gold price change should not require lowering buy prices by $80.

Gold had bottomed last Wed. at that exact $1373 point. So it seems if the storeowner hadn't updated his prices in "days," it was probably to his advantage.

  • As for the "locked in price" was their any fine print on the invoice which stated they reserve the right to say unlock said price?

<< <i>Got pissed not b/c he "thought" he was being screwed but b/c he could of sold some bullion at a better price at another venue "AFTER-THE-FACT" and WHINED here FIRST before complaining to the Buyer whom he $100K experience with in the prior two months!!? >>

Sellers remorse?? I was upset that I was told an untruth by a coin shop I trusted that cost me 2 grand. It is as simple as that. I didn't have to sell, I did because I trusted what they said. No competition was opened yet for me to verify their story about the drastic price drop. You don't think I complained to them first right when I was there about reneging on a lock and the price drop? They told me the price drop affected all buying of Saints and Libs. I bought it hook line and sinker

If so, then what's the point of calling it a locked price or even bothering with the whole "locking in" process? If the dealer is free to change it after the fact whenever he feels like it, why bother?

Bottom line is that dealer committed. Dealer reneged. Dealer rightfully outed as unethical.

    Dieclash,

Your harsh replies to DWR is quite different than I have seen from you over the years on the board.
I don't think he was whining near as much as many threads around here, including likely some I have posted about Moy or the Mint or whatnot.

I can't believe you kept on him after each reply instead of just saying your piece and letting it drop.......

Anyway....hope folks can understand the OP's position and just let things sidle on down...

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

If I were doing 100 grand in 2 months, wouldn't I have one of those internet accessible phones to check gold prices? And if someone was telling me something new about what sells for what, why wouldn't you check it out first before making a deal. Every so often, I'll buy gold and one dealer charged me once $20 more than the dealer at another table. I went back and let him know that and he promptly refunded but he should have known, me thinks.

  • Listen, I happen to know the owner of this coin shop personally, he is a good friend of mine.

If you send me a check for $500 I can get you the funds back that you lost.

    Bochiman,

Perhaps my strong and persistent position thru multiple replies SUPPORTING my original response after reading the entire thread may appear collecitvely "harsh" to some. I, having been in a similar position in the past and having paid for and learned my lesson, felt that by relating my experiential "wisdom" was in no way "harsh" but rather "frank" in its raw and unembelished delivery. And I guess sometimes the truth hurts. But no offense intended, either to the OP or to your sensibilities.

Moreover, between you me and the OP, "no harm, no foul".

    Cheers!

Whether your rudeness intends offense or not, it's still rude. And frankly, if any member of this board wants to post their bad experience with a coin seller, be them B&M, on the 'Bay, or out on the Interweb, that is their right.

It is also the right of any other member to share their own experiences and opinions. When they do so, they identify themselves to all of the other readers of the board, and opinions are formed- some more favorable than others.

I've been on the wrong end of bad deals before. Should I diminish someone elses bad experience, or pillory them for "whining", just because I survived and "no one cared"? That seems juvenile to me.

Just sayin'. No harm, no foul, you know?
