Definitely a poor choice of words.
What a coincidence!
<< <i>Perhaps, one day, Cam Newton will complete an entire sentence using propar grammar. I can't imagine why he would have had difficulties in school. >>
If you could spend a day or two in the area where he grew up in south Fulton County, you'd understand. All of the kids (and most of the adults) all speak the same way. Its a part of the culture of where he grew up, and not really a Cam-specific problem.
College football tends to brings this problem into the light, because college football takes kids who, without their football talent, are wholly unqualified to participate academically at the institutions that recruit them. The frustrating thing is that its not really clear where to put them blame. Should universities force all athletes to have the same level of academic qualifications, regardless of their athletics status? If so, then problem solved, as all of your Heisman winners would also all be highly qualified academically, and thus a strong likelihood that come across as "polished." Or, do you just continue to expect kids like Cam to be articulate public speakers when they arrive on the scene, regardless of where they grew up and the culture which created them?
Always buying Bobby Cox inserts. PM me.

<< <i> The colleges and coaches are raking in the dough. >>
Very true. Colleges are making millions from players. Colleges have 20-30 BILLION dollar portfolios. I have been saying this for years. Colleges are scams in itself. And college presidents know this.

I apologize but the irony of your statement considering your spelling of PROPER is pretty funny.
Which would you rather be smart or make millions upon millions playing NFL football! D U H !!!!!!
The only question I have is if Reggie Bush got in trouble because of what his parent's did why did Cam Newton not get in trouble because of what his parents did? I thought the NCAA rules are that your parents are on extension of you no matter what? Is that not correct? I dislike U$C but I always thought the Reggie Bush thing was unfair. I just want to know what the rule really is!?

LOL!! I was thinking the same thing!
<< <i> I just want to know what the rule really is!? >>
IMO the "rule" is a living thing that will change based on how it affects the NCAA's bottom line. Best to allow him to play now and benefit from him playing and deal with any sanctions later versus making an immediate ruling that may "cost" them something now. NCAA is not sporting association but a business looking to maximize the dollars.

The difference is that Bush received benefits from the school he was actually attending. Newton's family went after benefits from Miss St - but he went to Auburn. Because no evidence of wrongdoing was found that involved Auburn - IMHO, only because the Auburn folks are smarter/better at hiding the money - and because Cam himself "wasn't involved" (another thing I don't believe), they ruled that he was eligible.
Quite a bit of hair-splitting to be sure but the two cases are definitely not the same.
