Free $20 using Bill Me Later, Nice Unopened Pickup UPDATE !!

Bill Me Later is running a promotion where you get $10 back and another $10 in ebay bucks when you make your first purchase using their line of credit. I figured what the hell since you can just pay it all off before they charge any interest. I bought this '84 Football Cello box for $327 after the $20 savings. Seems like a good deal since BBCE has theirs for $525. I'll rip it when I get it later this week.

that is a pretty decent price. i doubt anyone is paying $500 any more for these since the pops have exploded (Steve hasnt changed his price on these in 2yrs i think) but I did pay about $415 for one when there were still 50-100 cards with pop0 in psa 10. Having said that you still did well. Im sure if you put it at buy it now at $375-$385 it would sell in a reasonable amount of time and after paypal and ebay fees you would still make a solid 10% roi. not bad.

    you go, girlfriend!!
  • It was going to let me do it on a 60$ purchase last night; however, it kept registering that it was messed up and wouldn't le tme.
  • Congrats, thats a great price, I hope it turns out well. Maybe this is nitpicking but the seller listed it from a sealed case. It appears to be an "X-out" box, I thought those were retail returns which mean they can't be from a sealed case. I might be mistaken, anyway I hope you get some great cards.

As I understand it, the x-outs are retail returns; however, many of the returns were un-opened cases. Topps opened them, marked them with the X, then resealed the case.

I didn't really know anything about the history of these other than some were x-out's, thanks for the insight. It does say "from a sealed case" on the flip, which is an old label GAI.

So the seller finally contacts me today after I asked them for shipping info. on Monday. He told me that his PARTNER sold the box at a show and they would have to refund my money. So the money from Bill Me Later has apparently been refunded but now the free $20 no longer shows up in my searches. Needless to say, I think the guys' story is BS. I've only left negative feedback one other time but this will be number 2.
  • Yep, I agree... his way of putting a reserve on his auction I guess.

yeah, and the lady at Bill Me Later informed me that I couldn't get the offer for the free $20 now, which is the only reason I used it in the first place.

    Tommy,

Keep an eye on that box to see if it comes for sale again. The POS seller may sell it under another name, so write down the town he is from. He may just be stupid enough to sell it under another name and use the same town in his listing.

I had a similar situation happen to me a few years back. I won an auction for a 1971 OPC Baylor/Baker rookie PSA 8, the winning bid was around $150. I paid immediately, and waited about 2-3 weeks, then contacted the seller to find out where was my card. He informed me that the card was lost, and he would have to refund my money. Maybe a month or two later, the card shows up for sale, under a different handle and city location. I emailed the seller, and he denied it was the same card. I gave up after that, figuring that I got my refund, case closed.

Here are the last two responses I got from him after he finally got back to me after waiting almost 3 days for a response:

    1) - I have refunded the money via paypal. We know it is our fault so let me know if there is any fee or charges. Maybe I can make up your losses but you must cancel the transaciton first before I can refund your loss. Thanks and we apologize again for the messed up .

    2) - Hi

since you left a negative feedback then there is nohting we can do now. we are sorry again and hope this wont happened again .
  • Both responses seem fine to me. The seller could have communicated faster, but there really isn't much a person should do for you, after refunding the money, and having received a negative. Not saying it was or was not deserved, just not sure what else you would like if you think the responses are out of line or something.

never said they were out of line. They are fine in fact. I left the negative, I think he was in the wrong, end of story. I was just putting the communication up for the record since I brought the situation to light in the first place.

It sucks, but he may be telling the truth. Here is my correspondence with this seller...

    Dear domebreaker,

    Hi,

I missed out on this auction. If things do not go through with the high biddr will you please let me know? It would be for a Christmas present for my father and can offer $600 shipped to Richmond, VA. 23235.

    Thanks,

    Patrick

Hi I am sorry but I dont know which auction you are talking about . If we have more than one then we can sell one to you but if we have only one then we can only sell to the winning bidder on ebay. LMK

be interesting to see his response. AND, he just might be telling the truth. Still no reason he couldn't tell me that the day after or two days after I paid for the auction. He also cost me $20 by not having his ducks in a row with regards to his inventory at the very least. All of that = Negative.

    convo continued:

ok but will you take GAI 8 or 9 ?

    - domebreaker

    ----------------

    Dear domebreaker,

Depends on the price to be honest.

I would rather get him a 9.5 -- I bought a GAI hockey box that was a 9 a couple years back and it had a horrible bang in one of the corners.

Assuming the corners and box are in pretty good shape I could consider an 8 or a 9...but again, I'd really like a 9.5

    Thanks for the quick response,

    Patrick

    -------------------------

ok ,will go look for it at the local shows next week and e mail you if we find one .

You just saved a 20 point drop in your credit score by not using their line of credit so all is not lost.
