Well I put off posting on this thread once the 1952 board set build thread was started. Seeing how that threads over a year old now i'll update what i've picked up since. I haven't added alot of cards, but i'm in no real big hurry. I'm gonna try to finish my 1954 set this year and then go full time on this one. Thanks to everyone for letting me share my cards with you. Probably like alot of you no one else in my house cares about cards.

That's a hell of a good "lot" of 52s Jeff!

    A super set - thanx.

Nice group of cards Jeff. That Castiglione is tough as nails to find centered. My family too can care less about my cards, but I tell my kids having a hobby of any kind is a great thing and a cool thing to do.

Real nice Jeff. As the other Doug said, nobody in my house cares about cards either. They can't understand how I can get crazy over them. That's why this place is a GREAT place to spend WAY TOO MANY HOURS per day!

Very nice additions to that '52 set. I never thought that I would be into that set, but once I started picking up a few autographed 52's, it's become a passion!

Keep us updated on your new ones.

Thanks for all the comments guys. Nice cards RipublicaninMass. I also have that obsession with centering. These cards just look so nice when centered, but can look awful if there not. Must have something to do with the big borders. So what grade is that Billy Martin?

<< <i>Nice cards RipublicaninMass. So what grade is that Billy Martin?
    Jeff >>

Swami says that it graded a "4". HOWEVER, looking right thru that card it seems to be a grey back. Am I correct?

  • << <i>i'm doing it in raw condition low's between psa 4-6 condition and a little less for hi's. >>

why don't you save money and do the set raw, the low's in sgc 50-80 condition.
  • RipublicaninMassRipublicaninMass Posts: 10,051 ✭✭✭
I just pick up whatever is well centered, graded or raw. Slabbing only the hi grade ones, hof'er and Hi #'s

Just got the mail and found this Billy Martin waiting for me. I probably paid to much for this card, but couldn't get over the beautiful centering. This card always seems to have crap centering. I'm still maintaining a running total of what all the cards are costing me in my registry, but im apprehensive to post it as I did at the beginning. As it keeps getting higher I don't want it to look like any sort of bragging. So if your interested in persuing this set and would like a real world idea of price feel free to PM me.

    Enjoy
    Jeff

    Jeff,

Absolutely beautiful Martin...very tough to find centered like that. Worth the extra bucks in my opinion when they look like that one. I sent you a PM.

Jeff ... real nice looking Martin ... CONGRATS! Do you think the "bleeding" to the left of the black border on the left side of the card had anything to do with the grade?

I don't think you paid too much for the card. That card would not look out of place sitting in a "6" holder and those go for north of $300.00.

Thanks for the compliment Doug. I really like this card even though I can't stand the Yankees.(Sorry Doug) I don't think the bleeding had anything to do with the grade. I think the corner wear put this card in the holder that it's in.

Some more very nice cards coming soon. Stay tuned! image

That's OK Jeff .. I'm a METS fan. Yes, THE MICK was my idol growing up, but I would say for the past 45 years The Mets have been my team.

    Geez Jeff - that's a killed Martin!

Ted - I'm diggin the Hodges - nice pickup.

  • Thanks for the kind words Mike!

This ones for you Jeff, such an absolute BEAR to find this one centered I had to go well over VCP! Probably the best centered one I will be able to find

edit: STILL will look for an upgrade

    image

Guess I could upgrade to this, similar centering without the SLIGHT tilt, after looking closely, MINE looks more center at it's worse point image

Nice Morgan Ted. I think your better off keeping the PSA 4 and the $2700. image PSA 8's in this set are reserved for the big boys.

Jeff I was also bidding on that card and was winning with 35 seconds to go until it blew up on me. Unreal jump in the last 20 seconds. It's yours now and that's great, enjoy it. Doug

Just signed for a little box from the mailman. Inside were these 4 beautiful cards that Jeff Meyers sold to me. (still one more on the way from him) Thanks again Jeff

AWESOME additions Jeff. Gotta LUV IT when you can add ANY Hi# to your set, but it's even better when you can get centering like you did!

    Jeff,

This one has your name on it...no issue with upper right corner as the case has a slight scratch on it.

I know it does Jeff. I'm a second away from pulling the trigger. Maybe some peer pressure from some fellow board members will get me to jump on it.

This is very true. If you don't have him already I recommend you buy it. You will regret it if you don't.

Ok i've been talked into it. PM sent Jeff
  • RipublicaninMassRipublicaninMass Posts: 10,051 ✭✭✭
that was tough! lol I just went and looked at mine, a little worse centered than that one. This set is literally dirving me bonkers over centering, but that alone keeps me from having to eat cat food
  • DboneesqDboneesq Posts: 18,219 ✭✭
That's a real nicely centered Feller. I really look at the centering, but had to settle for this one for my set:

I'll take em rough, if they are well centered

Wow this has turned into a Feller party. I feel left out now. The one I just bought doesn't have an autograph on it. image Nice cards guys. Keep posting em, it's what keeps me motivated to buy.

Had the card on the right for a long time raw and got it graded last year. Bought the other in a 4.5 PSA slab and cracked it out hoping for at least a 5 whenever I send it in. It has a slight roller crease on the lower left corner but the centering is much better. Doug

Well if you do that it better at least have a Brad Meyers autograph. Yours won't do me any good. LOL

having been born in 1952 I've often thought of starting this set....after reading this thread I just may give it a go......it will keep me working my part time job until I complete the set!! As of right now the only "old" set I am working on is the 1955 Bowman football....this would give me sets in both sports (see Al_and_Sandys in registry).

Another nice card from the Jeff Meyers collection just arrived today. I can't figure out how he was able to find an upgrade for this beauty. Just won another high number off of ebay also. So I should have that coming in a few days. Damn this set is addicting. I highly recommend you start it alnavman. I wish I had such a cool set to collect for my birthyear.

Nice Sam White Ted. Any high number is nice in my book. Just got this one in the mail today. With the addition of this card it moves my set into the top 100 current finest at #99. Let's see some more of those cards boys.

Still slowly plugging away on this set. Just picked up another nicely centered high number. This puts me at 50 total cards now. Just about 1/8 of the way there. Would love to see some others recent pickups to get me motivated.

Prewar has a ton of nice 1952 Topps this week.
Nearly the whole set being auctioned...wow.
  • vettfanaticvettfanatic Posts: 643 ✭✭✭
Well I've added 7 more 52's to my set since my last post. The 3 low numbers I got from Ted(ripublicaninmass). The high numbers I got from a few sources. I know a couple of cards have slight diamond cuts, but diamond cuts really don't bother me. Call me crazy. Thanks for looking Jeff
