2 things I dont understand about 2010 ASE Proof $1

BigEBigE Posts: 6,949 ✭✭✭
1). Why would anyone be buying them and sending them back? Isn't any past issue worth at least 40 bucks? 45.00 seems cheap for a proof w/silver at 30. on paper and 32. for Englehard ounce at the local B and M.

2) After spending 40.00 for e-bay, paypal and grading, plus the time selling these 70's, how much do you really make? Maybe less than working at Mcd's?

Maybe people (me) have sent some back that were machine damaged and requested replacements and not a refund.

Maybe because if there are SOOOOOOOO many returns the number of "70's" will be low

Maybe because they are collector proofs and should be held to a slightly higher perception of quality

Maybe because the market should give the "70's" at least a 100% increase over base pricing.

......and how does MickyD's fit into this equation????

If the flippers get a 100% increase in base price how would they make anything? And why send them back to save 5 bucks ? I am not making bad statements about ASE's, I ordered a few, just asking a question. To answer yours about McD's, flipping burgers seems more profitable than coins-----------BigE

...i have a different view on the silver eagles. i don't much care for them BECAUSE i look at them as just a

copy of the walking liberty half. for me i'd rather have the actual old walkers. image funny, huh? image

I've often wondered whether these are indeed copies or rather just imitations. In other words, are these from the actual, original dies, or are they rather from imitation dies? As you can probably tell, I've never had much of an interest in these. They're very beautiful, I'll give them that, but they're more of a novelty series, IMHO, than a real coin series.

In my eyes all they are is bullion.

My returns were based on the fact that I refuse to sell my customer a coin that I know has mint damage.

Governments can print currency. Only the people can print faith in it — and they’re running low on ink.

What is the realistic chance of getting a nice coin since there are so many returns now? Mint sends those returns back right? Wouldn't it post/insurance cost eat into your profit? I am just curious. I want to send a few back for exchange but may not be really worth it.

I'm taking the refund and putting it toward the collector hockey pucks that the mint will be selling on their website after the first of the year.

I like the ASE's.... and have one from each year.... they make a nice display. I also have given one to each new child in the family (born since 86) and they are well received. Cheers, RickO

i went through the same thought process...either hold onto them all and send the best (that i could determine)

just decided NOT to do it that way and return what i did not submit. it may bite me in the arse a wee bit, we'll see.
