Random photos with my new Sigma 150mm macro from Robec--smallerized

Here are photos of a bunch of coins I had handy, mostly recent NEWPS but not all. Notice the 1795 half dime that many of you will recognize from the BST forum and the sweet BN 2c from Coinguy1. Thanks to Robec for the great deal on a great lens.

Nice photos, but I would scale them down to around 700X700. Much easier to view on the forum.

I meant to upload them 800x800 but forgot to change the settings. I don't know if I have the energy to redo it tonight or not...I've got a touch of pneumonia or some other minor respiratory infection. --Jerry

    So does my wife.

I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

    Post a gold coin!

  • Are you using auto focus or manual as the images are a bit out of focus? Also the lighting is a little lacking in certain images but considering you just got the lens I think you have made quite a bit of progress in a short time image

Manual focus. Could it be my aging eyes?

LIghting was just two odd lights at about 90 degrees and then mass production shooting. --Jerry
  • I would certainly add more lights or different bulbs as your not getting enough coverage across the whole surface. As far as manual focus....personally I don't recommend it but others may disagree....but you are on the right track image

Here are a couple taken with autofocus, I believe they look better.

Lee, if that was your wife last weekend at the Coyote Grill, then I am truly sorry.

MrEarlyGold, sorry, all the gold coins are "put away".

Now I'm going to try to make it to bed before the Nyquil kicks in and I have to crawl.

Very nice Jerry. I never tried auto focus before. Looks like it does a pretty good job. Considering your state of health I think you did a bang up job.

I agree that some are soft on the focus.

Good pictures... auto focus looks best. Play with the lighting a bit... experimenting with different lights, angles, in-direct lighting may produce even better results.
