What to do with all my junk coins?

What to do with all my junk coins?

I have a lot and I mean a lot of left over coins that are not worth getting graded and I do not need for my books. I got them over the years as part of collections and partial sets most are well calculated and just need a home. I have 5+ books of Lincoln cents sets(missing 1909-s and s VDB but the rest are there with many bu red coins in the later years), roll and more rolls of calculated Lincoln cents Indian cents and a roll or two of low grade flying eagles.

The issue is what do I do with the better dates on these calculated coins, the stuff CDN puts at 1-15$?

most dealers around me just do not want to deal with this stuff should I just list it and sell it all on ebay?
If so how ebay store or .99 cent auctions?

I added a photo I just took to give you an idea of the items I am talking about.

Is there a YN coin club or boy scouts that could benefit from some of these coins?

If you belong to a local club, and they have a monthly auction, you could consign them to that at low levels.

If you are would like to make donations, there are clubs and coin shows that will accept them to give to YNs.

try the BST, list the coins cheap, and people might want them to fill their albums or albums of their kids. Once a year I donate "junk coins" to YN auctions/efforts.

Find a dealer in your area who buys this kind of material at wholesale prices. Then, sell it to him/her. But it's wholesale, so don't try to hold out for the last buck on everything. Just MHO.

I think it depends on what you're expecting to get out of your castaways. I sold some better date Buf Nickels some years ago and now reget it since my son now collects them.

  • Use all of your junk coins as change when you go to the supermarket and confuse the cashier.

Haha just kidding, I would also suggest donating them. image
  • I'd give them away or spend them before i would sell to crooked coin dealers

"salting" rolls or giving out to YN's in change, or even dropping one or two on the ground in places kids play a lot, or in Coinstar cull-slots, etc is a fun way to excite some YN's, etc! image

Send some to Leonardo? You may be giving away a few dollars but the goodwill is priceless.

Oddball tips? I hit my tenders and servers up with dollar and halfs all the time, most of them appreciate it, especially the ones with kids and piggy banks. All you have to do is tell them 'hey, save this one', might spark something for them or later for their kids.

Well, you can sell them on ebay. You might want to consider sorting them, making up packages of like a dozen or so on some there, maybe 19th century pocket change, and listing them in a catagory related to reenactors. They love stuff like that. Or...trying to gather up nearly enough stuff to sort of fill an album, and then BUYING an old Wayte Raymond album, stuffing it and then selling THAT on ebay. You can make these coins work for you if you take the time to figure it out.

Break them down into themes, or price ranges, or series, and then divide that up and sell it in groups like that. "starter set buffalo nickels, 20 pieces!" Authentic Wild west era pocket change, pennies to silver dollars, all before 1890"

I would NOT take the time to individually list coins. Probably the BEST thing you can do is to get a little bowl and save out of the mix the top twenty or so coins in general, and then figure out how to sell those based on their merits.

Have fun with it it sounds like a nice rainy day project image

    Thumb it!

Spend the stuff that isn't worth shipping costs and sell the stuff that is. There's
no sense hanging onto low value coins you don't want unless you think they'll be
    worth more in the future.

Generally collectors should avoid duplication and unwanted low value coins.

Sell the good stuff then fill some rolls with the cheap stuff and sell it by the roll.

I would list them on the BST. You will find many buyers for even the lower end coins. I have bought many coins on the BST myself to fill holes in my folders. Ebay is simply not worth it for lower priced coins anymore.
  • I can unload them for youimage. If you need some extra money the obvious answer is to sell them, put similar coins in lots and put them on ebay. If you don't need the extra cash donate them to a family member or young neighbor get them excited about coins.
