I am not really a collector of "new stuff" ... however, I do like game used and auto cards. Are there any decent products to purchase that don't cost a lot? (More into Baseball than anything else.) Give me your opinions please. A cheap(er) rip can be fun.
    STAY HEALTHY!

If I get some big hits it will be! Last time I ordered from BBCE I got one pack of each 81 and 86 Football and I got the Montana and Rice rookies(with Rice showing on front of pack). I really want to pull a Jordan rookie.

I ordered a few things to rip for the holidays. A '77 Baseball Vending box and an '80 Vending box. I also won a '78 Basketball Vending box off of ebay for $112. It is graded GAI 8 with the old flip and says from a sealed case. The pictures in the auction had 8 other boxes with them so I assume he had all of them graded from the case. At any rate, if it's legit it's a steal since BBCE has them for $250.

That is really cool that they mail out packs with huge stars on the front.

That says a lot for their reputation. Many would simply keep that pack and mail out the next one. I guess that is why you guys buy so much stuff from them.

    Good luck with the order.

  • Most wax sellers are way too shortsighted. Always want the immediate upfront $$$, but the real money is in satisfied repeat customers.

A few times the BBCE has messed up my order, forgotten something, or wrong box. But it's easy to fix with an email.

Has anyone ripped any mid 70's basketball packs? 74/75 or 75/76? If they had a box of 93/94 topps finest basketball or 94/95, I would have ordered one of those. Seems like what I'm looking for is never on their site. Also 92/93 fleer series II cellos (with the total d cards). I never see those. Or the fleer racks with the team leader cards.

I'm also surprised that he doesn't have early finest basketball. A lot of people speculated on those cases and got burned. I think a lot of the 1992-93 Fleer cellos and racks were ripped when Jordan inserts got hot in the mid 1990's, there probably isn't a lot left. Fleer didn't really sell that many compared to the useless wax cases. I remember getting the order info about that product and didn't think it was worth it.

I did my own topps run of wax packs to frame for my office. Does anyone have a 1979 waxpack? That was the only year they were out of. PM me if you do. Also bought a couple of vending boxes, 1983 and 1985. I paypaled the money over, but it did not include the discount. Anyone know if you just get a refund or do I need to call them?

There are a lot of boxes from 2000-2003 that have 2 game used per box but are fairly cheap. Football and basketball were more commonly this way than baseball. Fleer and Pacific are the manufacturers to look at first. If they have 2003 Fleer Platinum baseball combo boxes (rack, cello, and wax packs), those have a good chance of getting a really nice jersey card (IIRC about every other combo box has a patch card, with most of the patches being from letters, numbers, or logos).

I'm always on the lookout for Finest Basketball, as it sells extremely well, even the years/series that don't really have any major rookies. Problem is, those speculators who have cases of this product aren't interested in selling at such a loss. Many are convinced the product will make a comeback, even though most contain players who are retired or in the twilight of their career.

I bought one box of 93/94 finest from him in aug/sept, around the time of the national. For $39.95. Boxes on ebay are like $70. He also had 94/95 upper deck sp for $22. I ordered two of those, but he only had 1 left. Dave and Adams has it for $42. Ebay is $30-50.

I never got into early/mid 90's basketball. Eventually I want to get refractor sets of 93/94 and 94/95. There was a 92/93 rack case on ebay awhile ago. I think the reserve was $600 or $700. I have one of those boxes, but would like a few more in mint condition. I don't even see them in big auctions, like memory lane, mastro/legendary auctions.

I'd also like to get the beam team set, hoops magics all rookie.

I am just like you I am not really into newer post 1980 however 3 boxes from the 80s that I generate enjoyment from the 80s is the 1984 donruss which I consider one of the nicest cards ever produced with a strong cast of players as well as the 84 Fleer and 85 Donruss.Thats it!!!

Is the 94/95 SP the ones with the foil background? Was the 92/93 Rack case sealed? If I recall, you could see the team leader card right on the front of the pack. Funny that such a worthless main issue has such high demand inserts.

I remember buying 10 1993-94 SP Ser 2 boxes at a Rosemont, IL show for $15 each. Webber just got traded to the Kings, Penny's knee gave out, and the rest of the rookie just sucked. They must have been Upper Deck "dealer" specials since they were loaded with the die cut inserts. I was able to finish the set and had a bunch of extras. I know that there were hot boxes for the Fleer and Topps basketball products during the same period. I bought a 2 boxes of 1996-97 Stadium Club Ser 2 at a Philly show looking for Kobe RCs and almost every pack had an insert including a few atomic refractors. Never happened to me with any other sport, but I don't buy much hockey.
    Mike
  • 94/95 SP has the Jason Kidd foil rookie. Remember Glenn Robinson? Wasn't he the $100 million man?

The rookie class from 91 to 95, really fizzled.

    Robinson
    Todd Day.
    Christian Laettner?!?!
    Harold Miner (Baby Jordan).
    Larry Johnson

It seems like there were 30 guys that were going to be hof'ers. Grant Hill and Penny didnt live up to expectations. I like the die cut set in 93/94. The rack case on ebay I think was sealed. They tried to sell it 3 or 4 times, I don't know if it ever met reserve.

I lucked out on ebay a few years ago, maybe it was 2005, I bought a rack box for $75-80. 20 of the racks had the team leader cards. You could also pull the larry johnson insert, which was a different color through the wrapper. The wrapper is tight enough that you can't tell what TL player you're getting (without damaging it).

Placed an order at DAcardworld last night. They've got some nice 2008-2009 wax on sale as part of their black friday. I rarely rip new stuff, so this was a good chance to get it cheap. Free shipping at the $50 mark, and you can find $5 discount coupons on line. Might go back for more tonight.

Tonight is the BBCexchange order. Pretty excited to pick up some mid-80's stuff for the retail price of when they were made, 25 years ago. image

BBCExchange order in before the deadline:

    86 Donruss Set
    87 Donruss Wax x 2
91 Stadium Club BB Series 1
    87 Sportflics BB Set
    89 Hoops Series 1

No huge hits possible, but fun rips, from product made right during the good ole days of my collecting. You could not get Donruss or Fleer retail in my town, and I still remember finding a whole box of 87 Donruss at the drug store for 40 cents a pack. Amazing its cheaper now. 89 Hoops series 1 was going for $50 a box easy at one point. If I can pull 2 nice Robinson RC's that would be nice. Or at least a centered Terry Catledge. 87 Sportflics, never seen them, but I like these cards, so we'll see. 86 Donruss factory set for $13.50 with free s/h, you bet!

Really wanted to pull the trigger on the 2001 Topps Archives series 1 box which would have been $81 dlvd, a great deal.

I just made an order. Because this is Steve Hart and many of you had nothing but praise for him, I felt comfortable to order vintage unopened material from him. Word of mouth is really the best advertisement--it costs nothing directly or upfront to the seller, yet it keeps on perpetuating the message exponentially.

    I ordered:

1981 Topps Superman II wax box $30
1983 Topps Superman III wax box $15
1991 Topps Traded factory sealed set (flat) $5

The item total comes out to be $50 regular price. Since shipping is free, the final total with 10% discount comes out to be $45.

Thanks, PSA Forum. Now I've just spent $600 more to relive my youth (with one Rack pack xmas present for a Gwynn collector to make myself feel better about the whole $$ thing).

1980 Topps Baseball Unopened Cello Box
1981/82 OPC Hockey Unopened Wax Pack x6

I ordered some odds and ends, including some junk wax, but I did order an 80/81 Basketball, still hunting the elusive Bird/Magic Rc and ordered about 15 junk wax era factory sets. Someone beat me to the 8 set case of 88 Score for $22 though

I bought 1982/1983 Fleer and Donruss boxes. I saw those packs more often when I was a kid, especially the 1983 Fleer, chasing that elusive Ron Kittle RC.
