Don't you love when you tell someone "pass" and they say make an offer?

Don't you love it when you tell someone you pass on their cards, they then say make an offer the worst I can say is no- then you make them an offer and they get offended and say you shouldn't have offered.

I've had this happen about three times in the past two days and it just dawned on me.

  • If they will just be patient prices will soon be back up where they were years ago and they won't have to mess with low-ballers any more. image

It has happened to me as well. If their BIN price is so far out of whack then I assume my offer will most likely offend them so I move on. I will have to say that I have won/bought several cards for 50-60% of the list thru the Best Offer option. At the end of the day,if they asked for an offer with the 'ol "The worse that could happen is that I say no" then they should just say no if the offer is unacceptable.

  • In the rare instance where something like that has happened to me, after they say "why don't you make an offer; the worst I can say is no"- I will respond with something like "I'm pretty sure you would not want to sell this card for what I would be willing to pay for it. Do you want me to make an offer anyway?"

If they still say yes, then they won't (or at least shouldn't) be offended with the amount.

I would NEVER say "make an offer" after someone tells me "pass"! Both parties know what items are worth, and 999 times out of 1,000 you would make more selling it thru Craiglist, your local card shop, pratically anywhere else than what the "passer" is willing to pay. That would be one of the rare times you could start the item for a penny and get more than they are willing to pay on Ebay......

I had a person ask " what am I willing to pay for an item" When I gave my price, they felt insulted but did not come back with a price. I thought it was a fair price and explained why I would offer the price. Communication is a two way street.

I missed out on two auctions from different sellers and send both messages asking if they will sell the item to me off eBay.

The first person I offered what the card didn't sell for plus his shipping. He didn't like that so he listed the card again (which I can understand) seven days later I end up the only bidder on the card.

So, after my experience with the first seller, I offer the second seller $5 more than he originally asked for. I get a response back from him saying that I should be "ashamed" for offering so low an amount and that he will relist the card...and that he added me to his BBL....sheesh.

That's stupid.....if they set the bids to their minimum and didn't get an opening bid, they should not be insulted if someone offers that number....

How about someone that says "I'll take it" and then you never hear back from them.

    I've had that happen.
