I knew who posted this as soon as I read the title! image How far off the "Real" price is this? Or another way to ask....what would/should this card bring in a true auction??
  • otwcardsotwcards Posts: 5,291 ✭✭✭
It's only off by about $19K...
  • You would think someone in possession of a card that valuable would have the means to provide a better scan than that.

Like Scott said the seller is way over.

Since 2007 I have yet to see one sell for over $6,000. Usually these go for $5,500ish.

With that kind of inventory, you'd think that he could have bought a better scanner!

    << <i>Question & Answer

Q: I have a major buyer for this card but I need to know rock bottom price it will take to get this card. I know he is not going to pay 25k he already turned down one for 22k. Just let me know as he is a major buyer if price is good. thanks Nov-15-10

A: Thank you for inquiring about the Jeter card. I have a buyer interested in paying $18k PayPal only but I'm not in a rush to sell the card. All serious offers would have to exceed $20k for consideration.

$8,000 could be possible with Jeter closing in on 3,000 hits. $18,000+ seems a little far fetched IMO. I have a feeling the seller was asking and answering the question on the listing.

Did ebay take away the link for offers on listings so anyone can view if offers have been made? I don't see the link anymore.

edit add: Never mind I found the link...

I am guessing the $8,000 offer was the only offer made on this listing?
  • All it takes is two people that want a tough pop card in their collection. 8k is a bit high though
  • agreed, 8k does seem a bit high but nothing would ruffle my feathers now-a-days

I do recall a time, when there were only two or three PSA 10's, when this was a $20,000 card.
I am buying and trading for RC's of Wilt Chamberlain, George Mikan, Bill Russell, Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, and Bob Cousy!
Don't waste your time and fees listing on ebay before getting in touch me by PM or at gregmo32@aol.com !

i sold one of these for 25k when it was a pop2.
that one will never be sold (for at least 50yrs) so you can subtract one from the pop report.

It's been a very long time since one of these sold publicly (ie Ebay) so potential buyers with deep pockets might not have any clue what one "should" sell for
I wouldn't be surprised by any price that card gets

Actually the last one I saw on ebay sold for $5,500. I believe it was sold last year around this time. The previous one that I saw sold on ebay was I believe around 2007-2008. That auction ended around $4,750.

Then there is the one that sold on Mile High for $4,877.43 on 2/14/2008

Probably - that is what I thought when I sold a Pop 3 1986 Topps Steve Young PSA 10 RC around 8 years ago. It is still a Pop 3 card image

OK I didn't know that. I checked VCP and they don't have a record of a sale in PSA 10

My apologies my last post was inaccurate.

The last one sold on ebay was June 2009 and it was for $5,500.

I know this because I had cheaply won 3 different Jeter cards from the same seller who auctioned the 93 SP PSA 10 card at the same time. I just looked them up on my inventory and they were purchased on June 2009.

The one sold prior was the mile high auction.

The one auctioned prior to mile high was on ebay on May 2007 sold for $4750. I had to look at old emails to see the month year I was in contact with the seller who was auctioning that one.

If there are less then 10 graded this high, and becuase he is a NY icon, you could easily find some hedge fund manager, private equity guy, insurance executive etc. that has plenty of dough and wants the card.

As hard as it is to imagine the difference of $5,000 or $10,000 not meaning much, for some it doesn't and they simply want to have the highest rated rookie card of their guy.

I don't think this well sell for less then $5,500 and if the seller is in no hurry, which he should not be if one has not surfaced in over 12 months, he should get a strong price for this card.

  • twileytwiley Posts: 1,923
Only reason this card is pop 9 is because it is a condition sensitive issue foil card. If the pop was much higher like the pinnacle card pop 150+ the price imo would be a lot lower then where it is now. Also PSA is notoriously stricter when it comes to this card.

Like all other cards in the modern day era. I have a feeling Jeter cards will hit their peaks next year when he hits 3000 and/or when he makes it in the HOF. Then they will drop...

I can see this card hitting the 10K mark after he hits 3000 or when he is inducted into the HOF.

The last two that I know of sold privately for $6000 and $7000, respectively. Both sales were in the last 18 months and both were pre-half grade labels. I sold the $7000 one and I personally know the buyer of the other who confided that he paid $6000. My guess is that the actual value, depending upon exposure and timing would be $5000-8000. A wide breadth, but then again, it's an item that when there's a serious buyer, they'll probably have to pay the price since there are so few that are not permanently locked into collections. My guess is that there may be only 2, possibly 3 that would be available for sale.

    Otw that is great feedback.

If you estimation of only two or three in the real float is acurate, this could fetch quite a sum.

i remember 10k, it was when the vlad 9.5 refractor went for 13k plus bp so around 2001 it was that much.

The item that started this thread has had 17 offers so far. There is definately some interest and it obviously is just the agreed upon price at this point that is holding it back from selling.

The seller seems to be holding firm so far. This newly listed one will certainly have an impact on what he can get for his.
  • otwcardsotwcards Posts: 5,291 ✭✭✭
My gut tells me that the "new listing" won't be around long . . .
  • Dpeck100Dpeck100 Posts: 10,912 ✭✭✭✭✭
You think it is a phony listing or an offer will taken off EBAY?
  • otwcardsotwcards Posts: 5,291 ✭✭✭
    Bogus...

I know the whereabouts of 6 of the 9 (really 8 as one was crossed to BGS) and with the BIN listed, that's 7 of the 8, so the odds of the lone one being listed are slim. My guess is that if he adds a scan, it will be a stock or a stolen image. Probably the one holding the card over a tiled floor... And if that image is used, that card is no relabeled and in Dmitri Young's collection.
  • Dpeck100Dpeck100 Posts: 10,912 ✭✭✭✭✭
There have been 40 page views and no bids last I looked.

If these are really that hard to come by then the other one is going to sell for 10k plus I think.

I have it on my watch list so if it disapears I guess now I will know why.

  • twileytwiley Posts: 1,923
My guess if it is real or not doesn't mean a thing without a cert# and a good scan. It could be the real deal but until cert and scan are provided I wouldn't touch that listing...

    edit add:

This also makes me very weary of the seller...

Check out the 1957 Mays card he kept trying to sell to people...

Man this seller is holding out. 21 offers so far.
  • For all we know the 21 offers were for 500 or less per offer.

I once had a rare Budweiser light that rotated and had the horses and dogs etc etc. The light was worth around 1G. I had it up on ebay for 1.5G OBO. Within the first month I had over 30 offers all under 500. LOL! Eventually someone came along and made an offer that was accepted. I think it was around the 64th offer.
  • otwcardsotwcards Posts: 5,291 ✭✭✭
Based upon the fact that two reasonable offers that a friend has made have been rejected ($5500 and $6000) and the seller insists that he's rejected an offer over $10,000 (I seriously doubt he's had that offer and he'd be a fool to reject it), I don't think the seller is being realistic. Accordingly, I find it unlikely that most offers were anything that would be considered reasonable. Just because there are page views and 20+ offers doesn't mean that there is a flurry of buyers lining up who are ready, willing and able to make the purchase.

  • I have a feeling the card won't sell. Especially for the amount the seller wants to get for it. I really think if the pop was a lot higher like 100+ the card wouldn't even be worth 2G...
  • otwcardsotwcards Posts: 5,291 ✭✭✭
I don't really see much increase in the pop as anyone breaking the product will find that the issue, having been stored for the past 17+ years, tends to stick together which causes issues with the surfaces, including the foils.

The only way that I see any reasonable increase in the pop is if someone gets trimmed cards past the graders and even then, you'd have to find examples without the surface scratching.

While I tend to believe that most cards will see pop increases, the PSA 10 Jeter SP is one that probably won't eclipse 20 pieces in the next 10 years by which time, Jeter will be in the Hall of Fame and his desirability will be more of an after thought.

Personally, PSA 9's are still the best value for the collector that wants a high end Jeter as they are still somewhat tough and they are affordable. PSA 8's are plentiful and relatively cheap. A lot cheaper now than they will be come the end of June and early July when Jeter is closing in on and reaches 3000 hits. Now, they're in the $75 range and will be over $125 come the 3000 drive. I'm also expecting the PSA 9's to go from their $400 range to around $600 during the frenzy. Heck, we might even see one of the PSA 10's actually sell, probably in the $5500-6500 range.

yes you are spot on, I remember that sale on eBay for $5,500 and there was another one in 2010 that sold under $9000

since then the card has increased in population (i remember it used to be pop 6!)
