<Are you saying that KO analyzes these complex issues better than Limbaugh? I don't back either horse but don't see a close horse race here>
In a three horse race on complex issues I would bet on the horse to win, Limbaugh to finish second and Olberspin to pull up LAME and finish third. Olbermann is a nitwit. MJ

I was curious about KO's bio and did a quick check on his name and the above came right up multiple times - "suspended w/o pay" since Nov 5th for donating to campaigns in violation of network policy. I guess MJ already used the right words with pulling up lame. He clearly failed to properly analyze the outcome of that situation and possibly the network is looking for another horse to run. But I must admit, his 30+ yrs in broadcasting are quite colorful and varied.
Thankfully the pm markets are open and we can get back to watching $1400 gold happen.
A lot of creative type people on that list. So no surprise that a structured and often-limited environment like college doesn't work for them. roadrunner >>
Being a success in a creative activity despite lack of education has nothing to do with requiring journalists and commentators to have higher education credentials necessary to analyze complex issues instead of making stuff up, ranting, or presenting simplistic jingoism like "you're either with us, or with the terrorists." >>
KO needs to go to anger management class. The MSNBC election coverage on Tuesday night was beyond pathetic, bordering on childish behavior. Michele Bachmann put the "Tingly Leg" Matthews in his place but good!! One day KO might try to be fair and balanced by inviting a conservative voice onboard. That could be a while, as his suspension may bring on fresh blood that is unscripted, and doesnt't read the Media Matters talking points memo verbatim!

You must have not bothered to look at the list even though you brought up the questionable reference concerning dropouts. A large % of that list, including honest Abe were not artists. Are you saying that KO analyzes these complex issues better than Limbaugh merely because he is on prime TV? I don't back either horse but don't see a close horse race here.
Higher education may indeed help bring one's skills to analyze to the forefront, but I would submit that they are either already there or they aren't. No amount of higher education is going to make you into a critical thinker if the base material is missing. Maybe a communications major can pipe in but I would think the key there is to be a polished communicator rather than a critical thinker. One's critical thinking tends to come from outside what one does in the structured classroom. Hence it can be picked up in a myriad of ways other than through a formal degree. One can attend all the classes they want and regurgitate what is said to them but it doesn't help them them to be an original, critical thinker.

One of the aims of a liberal arts degree is to teach one, for those that don't know how, to think critically. Granted they are not often successful, however if we took samples from each group (BA's, and what would you call them,High School grads?) I would bet on the college group. I took a wide range of courses in my undergrad years, in a few we did "regurgitate" info but I would say that the majority of Prof's wanted to see what you could do, or make of, the study material.

Left wingers like Maddow and KO are not considered nuts too??? >>
They don't lie.
Maddow earned a Doctorate in Philosophy (DPhil) in politics from Oxford University.
Olbermann graduated from Cornell in 1979 with a B.S. in communications arts.
Glenn Beck/Rush Limbaugh/Sean Hannity are all dropouts.
Maddow says, "I'm undoubtedly a liberal, which means that I'm in almost total agreement with the Eisenhower-era Republican party platform." >>
So you have to go to college to have a clue what you are talking about? Guess I'm an idiot too, but have made more money than all of the college grads I know. Go figure since they are all WAY smarter and more educated than me.
Oh, and Hannity, Limbaugh and Beck....yeah, all are multi-millionaires. Probably more than your buddies Maddow and Olbermann can claim. But certainly hold onto that piece of paper from Cornell really tight. It's worth its weight in gold.

I'm reminded of the quote from the gentleman from Baltimore, "no one ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public" Is how much money you make the final arbiter of success? If so, I guess that would make a say, Vince McMahon more successful than, say a Linus Pauling.
I just got back from Asia. The front page of the papers for a week proclaimed that he is actually very unpopular in Indonesia presently. They even cited "the statue" of him that once graced a park was taken down and sent back to the school he attended. Un keep promises to the region was the reason. I think I got that correct. It's Googlable..................MJ
