Got out today to the same field that produced the 1740 King George II Farthing a few days ago. It didn't produce too many "keepers" but picked up a couple of older buttons. Then finally got a 12-44 reading on the e-Trac, which usually means a pre-82 copper Lincoln cent. Thinking I might potentially have a wheat cent, I dug a couple of inches, but out pops a large disc! Couldn't identify in the field, so upon getting home gave it a quick rinse and noticed it was a Draped Bust - my first draped bust large cent! It's very slick (reverse has no detail), but the date is barely visible - 1798.
So, my first 1700s coin ever popped out four days ago, and the second pops out today! Not bad at all. This older stuff is addicting! Happy Hunting all!
