Got out yesterday for a few hours. Finds were a bit slow, but still managed some keepers.
The first find was an 1876 IHC. This goes well with the 1878 found earlier this year. Now I simply need an 1877, cross your fingers!
Then a 1944 Merc popped out about a half hour later. Then that old-ish button at the bottom of the pic. One final find in the first section came in the form of a sterling silver band. Small (.9 grams), but was very welcomed.
Then decided to take the "path less traveled" and work a small trail leading to a cemetery (didn't detect in the cemetery, just the trail). Found a couple of wheats, then picked up a 1945 War Nickel. It was between some roots, and I got a pretty good hit on it with my shovel, oh well, it happens. On the way back down I found the large button at the top. It looks silver, but when I tested it for silver, the solution turned blue, indicating either copper, nickel, or zinc. I'm still not sure because the button came out without any corrosion and is still exceptionally smooth. Is it possible it's a low grade silver?
A few minutes later, picked up a buffalo nickel - 1927. And then found the pin (top right). Could be from around the '40s as that's the age of the other coins found. Any idea if that "hangy thingy" had a purpose? My guess is it's either brass, or gold plated.
HH all!

Lafayette Grading Set
<< <i>Congrat You are over last years silver total with 3 months to go. How are you doing on a type set for the year with all of the different coins you've found? >>
Thank you! Thank you! No autographs, please!
I'm actually tied right now for silver coins with last year... the third piece of silver for that trip was a ring, so I'm stuck at 51 silver coins for now!
For a 2010 type set... let's see:
Cents:
Large Cent
IHC
Wheat
Memorial
2¢ Pieces:
2¢ Piece (header probably wasn't necessary here, eh?)
Nickels:
Shield
V
Buffalo
Jefferson WTN
Regular Jefferson
Dime:
Capped Bust
Seated
Barber
Merc
Roosevelt (silver and clad)
Quarter:
Barber
SLQ
Washington (silver and clad)
Half Dollars:
WLH
(not even a clad Kennedy this year)
Dollars
SBA
Overall, not too bad. I think the only type from last year that's not on this year's list is a 3-cent nickel. But, last year there was no 2-center, (edited to add: or Capped Bust Dime) so I guess it all evens out.
