Why did I get this insanely rare test issue so cheap?

Don't get me wrong, I am as pleased as I can be that I got this 1973 Topps Pin Ups Joe Torre for the minimum bid of $100. I am just wondering why it went so cheap (besides an answer like "because nobody else bid on it"). This test issue is very, very rare. The SCD lists this in NM for $275. This is a PSA 7 and test issues generally go for way more than book.

I have been looking for this one for a few years. I am glad to mark this one off my list!

Shane -- I think more of them have trickled in to the market over the past few years -- and many have not shown up for actual auction -- just fixed price sales.

Also -- this tends to be one of those items that are typically found in sets. A few sets have been broken up to sell HOFers to Player collectors, and cards like Torre get leftover.

I just recently picked up a Topps Pinup Proof card from 1973 -- completely different stock.

I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

the seller didn't have "topps test" in his listing so it would not come up if one is searching for test items.

Surprised that particular seller missed that.

Also, PSA did not have 'test' on the cert either.

No, the proper response is, "You're...brain's...got a...shell on it" (in the voice of Chris Farley).
