Yeah, but some nicely toned ones get to be super expensive. Especially anything with tab toning.

Nice luster. This is one of those issues where toning isn't needed to make it more attractive. When you find a nice one, the design elements just POP.

Solid 65, nice coin, probably once dipped as I don't see any skin.... many of these can be also be found with tab toning if that is your thing.

Also, sometimes when TT says "Toned", the toning turns out much brighter and vivid in hand.

The Classic Commem series is way underappreciated for it's Real history.

Yeah, I started this set cause I love a lot of the designs, and I will never get bored compiling this set. Also, like you said, the coins don't only represent the history of when they were made, but also the history of the event they're commemorating.

Yeah, and I set my minimum grade for the set at MS64, but I might have to make an exception for those 2

It looks to be a nice coin that is typical for the MS-65 grade. It is nice and smooth.

So far as toning goes, yes the surfaces are white, but I've never seen an attractively toned Roanoke. I once had one with some brown tarnish on it, but that's as close as I've seen to a toned example.

These pieces were issued during the mid 1930s when commemorative coins were very popular, and collectors bought them who knew how to preserve and protect them. For that reason this and number of other commemorative half dollars from the same period tend to come nice. William Marks Simpson designed this coin as well as the Norfolk (with his wife) and the Antietam commemorative half dollars.

I much prefer coins that have some character, regardless
of grade..eye appeal is so much of the deal..great example!
