This one is an old psa labeled card...

I've noticed on ebay many sellers citing on their listings that this an old psa label - as if that is a bonus or positive detail to bidding. I'm curious to know what does the board members think about that? Since the advent of half grades i only buy graded 9's and 10's with the new label and rarely look at old psa graded cards (especially those with the hologram on the back). just saying....

  • No facts to back up this statement but maybe they feel like it may make a bidder more interested in it since there could be an outside chance at a half point bump, just a guess.

    +1

When I was working on a few older sets I would personally stay away from the "really old flips", I found them generous.
  • I really don't want to answer this but I will. I been making money on old flips with a certain card which I will not disclose.

I buy old flip psa 8 that look like it might bump. The card sells for 90ish as an 8. When it gets the 8.5 bump it becomes a 200ish card.

    Another helpful use for VCP

  • I think it's possible some sellers also mention it to alleviate any suspicions potential buyers may have seeing the different flip if they're not aware that PSA has changed it a couple times.

    Agreed.

Also the grade bump. I know a couple who used to do that with old BGS slabs after BGS was sold and changed flips.

I also think that sellers put that in listing for the lure for someone to get a bump it it is a great looking card....But that Rarely happens, for me at least.

My PSA 9 NNOF is in a VERY old slab, and I think deserves a bump.

The problem is, PSA doesn't recognize that all 1990 Topps Blackless cards are OC T/B. Some are OC R/L as well, but I've never seen a more centered version T/B than my copy.

I never bother with an auction that tries to lure me in with a "the card could get a .5 bump" line. I am after the cards where the seller doesn't know it is an old flip and has no idea the card could get a bump. I also find it funny because almost all of sellers that try the lure .5 bump tactic seem to all have the worst possible scans. Making it impossible for you to see if the card could bump or not.
