Lets hear some stats about everyone here!

Ive always wondered where/how everyone got into the PM side of things, and where everyone stood. Things like the age you began, the age you are now, what you have, when/how you acquired it, your plans for getting (or NOT getting) rid of PM's in the near future. If things seem a little personal, then please feel free not to give out any information.

Ill start.

I started around 20 years old (back in 2004). I bought/sold a ton of AGE's for a small profit on EBay/Paypal. I was able to acquire around 2 ounces of 1/4 and 1/10 AGE's, and 2 10oz Silver bars. These all went away when I began my business after leaving the marines in 2006.

I recently got back into things (around 8-12 months ago). Most of this is in hand, some is awaiting delivery.

Gold- 3.85 ounces. (1 Engelhard 1oz, 2 2006 Buffalo Proofs, 2 1/4 AGE, 1 1/4 Panda, 1 1/10 Panda)

Silver- 220 Ounces (14 10oz JM, 1 10oz Amark, 2 5oz JM, 3 Rolls of ASE's)

Platinum- None

Pladdium- None

Im most likely going to get rid of most or all of it a year from now (next Sept.) I am planning on purchasing a house, and will need the finances to help move that forward. I will continue to stack until then, and will continue after then, however probably at a much slower pace. Obviously, if prices are lower this time next year, I will hold.

  • Started off in the Lincoln Registry sets with the 1909 to 1958. Completed that back in 2001, sold the set off to concentrate on key date coins. I still dabble in the key dates(still have my collection), but got into PMs shortly after my key date adventure began. Lately, have been thinking of selling off all my coins to concentrate on PMs.
    Now concentrating on a nice Engelhard collection as the core of my PMs and buy any PM when have the cash in hand.

    Holdings currently:

    Gold - 5 oz (mainly 1/4oz AGE, just bought my first St. Gaudens)

    Silver - 359 oz (Engelhard, JM, Pamp, Agor, ASE, etc...)

    No platinum or pladdium. Dont have any plans right now on getting into either.

    Current plan is to stack 1,000 oz of silver and 10 oz of gold.
  • I got started in PMs when I came across my Grandpa's 1896S $5 Liberty Head necklace my mom had been given and I found going thru an old jewelry box. This was in my late teens. I accumlated about 5.5 oz of gold and 25 oz of silver up until my early 20's. Over the last 5 years I sold ever piece I had (except my grandpa's $5) and got into a couple rentall houses. Since this time I got married, have a little girl, (and one on the way), and sold my rental houses to get back into PMs. I am currently 27 years old and have the following:

    Gold- 20.70 ounces (mostly pre 1933 gold, with some bars, fractional bars, and pandas
    Silver- 80 ounces (mostly Engelhard and JM 1oz and 10oz bars)
    No Plat or Pal.

    My goals were 20oz of gold and 1,000oz of silver. I have reached my gold goal, but realized......I just can't stop!

  • Unfortunately my flash drive broke and I lost all my data, damn’ it (my last back up was done in June).

    Because of my dad’s collection, I have always loved gold coins but didn’t really get into the buying phase. image
    Then, last year, I received the flier about the beautiful UHR in the mail and thought to buy it even though it wasn’t the right time for me to spend $1189 on a gold coin (actually I thought too much and ended up paying it $1289!). My wife was very supportive, knowing the love my dad has for his coins.

    After the UHR I started buying a lot just because I wanted to learn more.
    At the beginning I was more into numismatics products. I began my Dansco 7070 and bought a lot of Mint products. Then, I got into PM and sold the majority of my numismatics products and converted them into PM.

    Now (if I recall correctly – it can be checked on last week’s Metal Porn but have no time to do the math image ) I have the following, give or take, at the age of 36.

    Ag = 110 oz
    Au = 6.5 oz
    Pd = 2.45 oz
    Pt = 0.10 oz

    Also, I have estimated that my dad has at least 80 oz of Gold!
    Hope to be able to add at least 3 or 4 oz of gold every year and will convert almost all my silver whenever I go back to Italy.

    In the next few weeks I am planning to sell something because my wife deserves that engagement ring she couldn’t get last year!

    32, been buying mostly collector coins and some bullion since late '04, I convinced myself then that I was nuts for paying $25/roll for circ Mercury dimes, I kick myself now for selling all of my early bullion purchases.

    I plan on continuing to purchase and sell coins and bullion to fund other coins and bullion purchases.

    I think that gold and silver will hold for a while and creep up when the reality of the economy comes out of the shadows.

    I have some silver, a 2 1/2 gold piece, no platinum, no palladium.

    only 4 years ago, when i sensed things were going south. i have very few non bullion numismatic coins now. i know there are many exceptions, yet i don't have the knowledge to know a deal.

    i really like 1/10 AGE on bought quite a few. if SHTF they along with 90% and ASE's will be necessary.

    it's now about 70/30 Au/Ag ratio. i've moved more into Au, even with silver's run.

    I got it gold serious in 2002 when in a short month I lost 1/2 my 401kimage

    I said to myself if that crock of shavings 401K can disappear that fast I better do my own investing.

    I took a max loan against what I had left and bought gold. After the 2008 crash I'm glad I made my 2002 choice.

    Lost 1/2 my 401K holdings again in 2008image My 2008 loss has about recovered but that's 2 years to do so.

    Catching up is NOT making $ in my book. So now I have 1/2 as much PM's as my 401K holdings and 60% of my 401K holdings in coins.

    I'm about a gnats hair away from cashing out all my 401K and put into PM's.

    I'm almost 49 and NO WAY have enough in my 401K to retire. They will move up the retirement age soon.
    I figure I'll be worm dirt before that new age of retirement.

    I can hold PM's in my hands. They will not go away no matter the value.

  • I'm getting divorced so I do not have anything, and half of that is hers...image
  • Other than a gold coin or three, I never dabbled in PM's until a few years ago and that was in the form of a mutual fund. It was my only US holding (other than bonds) that gave me a decent return that year, and the next, and this year looks good. I have added a strictly gold fund, and some coins, although the coins are primarily for numismatic interest. I don't buy the metal because the funds are in an IRA and I am putting off paying the tax as long as possible.
