Frankly I was shocked to see that there was another...

Maybe not a real BOO YAH moment, but I bought this raw for less than $2. Sent it in and got a 9...the ONLY one graded by PSA. I think it's kinda cool.

As you can see, the slab is a monster!

I was pretty excited to get this <$1 card. He made his debut with the Giants in 2009, and has been bounced between AAA and the Giants repeatedly. He got DFA'ed and picked up by the Astros recently, so he's gone. But, since I collect rookie cards for everyone who's ever been a SF Giant, his card was needed and the only MLB card ever made for him, so far, was in the Giants team sets given out in August at AT&T Park on baseball card day. It's possible that they'll put him in one of the update sets, but since he's an Astro now, this will likely be his only MLB card in a Giants uniform.

I am not sure what constitutes recent in terms of a purchase, but this card was a purchase within the last 4 months or so, and still makes me say BOO-YAH everytime I look at it.

Back in 2007 This card in this grade sold for $2,200. I bought a raw version and had it graded it came back a psa 9. Recently another psa 10 came along and I snagged it up. When I got it I was super stoked. 2 more versions of this error card and I will have them all. I need the base PSA 10 as I have to upgrade my psa 9 and the copper version.

I've shown it before ... I had this graded over the summer. I put together a 1967 set back in the 80's by going from show to show almost every friggin weekend. When I renewed my PSA membership and received my six freebies, I went thru my set (which has been sitting in 9 page sheets for about 25 years) and sent in a few. This was a BIG BOO-YA for me when I saw the VCP.

I was also pretty excited when I got these two MANTLE SERIES packs back:

Beauty. Now that I have a RC that I enjoy, that's my next Clemente goal. I'm going to have to pony up for a higher grade copy than I normally purchase vintage though. The solid colors are killer in terms of eye appeal when they get damaged.

Just picked up this beauty last week. It has a good shoot for a .5 point bump.

  • Finally found another one form this very rare set. I may never finish it even though it is only 150 cards, but I damn sure will try ...

It's extra cool because it is the only cigarette card of this Chelsea F.C. player that exists (he had a short career) AND it is the rarer "Pinewood" back instead of the more common "Golden Flake" version.

  • Nice cards - rough shape.

Those cards come from two very nice cigarette sets that had albums made to stick the cards into. They were made in abundance (think T206) and many survived well preserved in the albums.

    Will's Cigarettes - Association Footballers (50 cards)
    Churchman's Cigarettes - Association Footballers (50 cards)

    Both were issued in 2 series of 50 - Churchman's 1938 / 39, Will's 1935 and 1939

    cheers

Didn't know if I'd ever find one of these.
1972 Venezuelan Baseball Stamps Al Oliver. It has a clean back, and if it wasn't for the wrinkle on the left side it would be an 8.

  • I got a boo-yah on a July PSA submission. I had a 1993 Stadium Club Murphy set sitting around the house that I got when they first came out. I thought I would open it versus selling as there was really nothing to lose...you can get about $65 for a set and about the same for a raw Jeter from the set. I subbed the Jeter and got a 10. Probably will hold on to it until he retires.

  • << <i>Probably will hold on to it until he retires. >>

If you're planning on selling, wait until he has about 2998 hits next season and list it on a 10 day auction. Then just hope he doesn't go into a 2 week slump.

i thought the condition of the top card was suppose to play a role in grading of cello packs? that molitor rookie is far from a 9.

Andre The Giant 1982 Wrestling All Stars A BGS 9 with 9.5 for corners.

Andre was the first card of the wrapped sets so many have major corner damage. There will not ever be too many of these surface!

I agree. The 1964 Stand-Ups are just great looking cards. If you want to get one at a good price, look for one with a ST qualifier. They're pretty common with back stains, and they'll still present really nicely.

    image

I was pretty patient and found this Willie Mays that I think presents well for the grade.

Nice to see this thread still going. Couldn't pass this one up. I prefer SGC cards with marks because of no qualifiers. Most go down to the 1-2 range I've found, but the cards are typically much nicer than the technical grade. I also really don't consider vintage stamps on the back of these all that bad.

Only one graded higher, and I can't imagine it looks better than this one...

  • Bought this Mantle within the past year and, every time I open the safe and see it, it brings out a BYOB -- "Boo-Ya, Oh-Boy", can't believe it's mine! In the description of the card it mentions the patch on his arm was from the 1951 season, so this is a rookie card of sorts. I love it!

    image

I'd also love to have that T206 Walter Johnson for my Senators/Twins collection! Nice one!
