I finally get a USPS rant :( Has this one happened to you?

BochimanBochiman Posts: 25,556 ✭✭✭✭✭
Was returning something to a board member, printed out their address on the envelope, made sure I had enough postage, etc.
Mailed it over 2 weeks ago and thought the USPS was just being slow (2 states south of me).

Today, I get back my original envelope with a "Postage Verfied" stamp on it.
Yellow sticker over the mailto: address which reads: "Return to Sender. No Such Number"

Now, I KNOW the number exists because I did a copy/paste from a PM from the forum member. I also had previously sent a check to the SAME address.

Not sure how I will handle this with the post office since they seemed to think it doesn't exist but it does and I need to get this back to the forum member.

Anyone else ever have this happened? How did you get it corrected so you could use the address?
2 coins in the package that I am sure the forum member wants back, and I want to return to him, so this is a little frustrating (and I feel bad for them since they have been extremely patient waiting for 2 weeks without bugging me on it, which would have been within their rights for anything over a week, imho).

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Had that happen sending a pkg to my sister....I do know her address.
So, I just entered that address in Mapquest and wahlah! It showed
the directions right to her door. Marched it down to the PO with the
package and it got there no problem....
Maybe they sent the map to the USPS driver?

I would go to the USPS website to make sure that the address is correct & print out the summary and take it with me to the P.O., so that they can remail the item free of charge.

Demand a postage refund from the post office for their obvious failure and send it via FedEx or UPS?

It's unlikely, but possible, that the forum member listed his address incorrectly - did you double check with him? It's also possible that you used an incorrect address previously, but the check still reached your intended destination.

Never happened to me. I've always received excellent service from my post office and my letter carrier. Maybe I've just been lucky.

Thought that as well...I have a PM out to the forum member to confirm the address.
Just weird that a check reached him 3-4 weeks ago, and this bounced back to me.

I've had pretty good luck, all things considered, with the post office, and this was the first of its type for me, so I found it weird.

Paypal shipping for some reason generates a bad city name for me, but the correct zip code - and packages still get delivered OK.

Verify the complete address and zipcode. If correct, take to PO and tell them to please deliver this time. The PO is not perfect, they probably deliver 99% without a hitch. Not too bad.

The real story for the board is why you sent back the coins.image

My own stupidity...I wanted one below the one I told the person in the BST. I typo'ed and didn't catch it until it showed up.

Yep...that's what I am waiting for.....a confirmation that the address is 100% correct, then going to talk nicely to the post office. Everyone makes mistakes, but I found this one sad AND funny.

I just felt thankful that the person I worked with on this has been super cool and patient about this mistake. I know from many of the threads that there are folks on here that would have been ranting and yelling at me saying it was me not sending, etc etc etc.

Amazingly enough it is possible for this to occur ( as I just dealt with it)

If one person puts in a change of address for a business or someone else they can ( and have ) returned all the mail, do not forward the rest simply return. For a PO box if you do this they will actually close the box and if you want it back you have to repay for it and reapply.

My area has been a postal nightmare. These often take more than 7 days to deliver first class mail and 4-5 on priority mails.

This is why I use fedex so much now.
I seldom check PM's but do check emails often jason@seated.org
