my guess was it was a recent drop, or 2 guys looking to get some tv time by planting the coin there.

Or someone wanting to leave it for them or a young one as a nice find, kind of like when people hand out peace dollars or pop interesting coins into charity boxes. I don't think the coin itself will be worth a lot but its a nice story.

Obviously a recent drop. Quite possibly tossed when the possessor saw it was not a US coin. Perhaps from a theft. Cheers, RickO

I carried a fire-damaged 1864 half dollar as a pocket piece for over 25 years. I lost it twice, and found it the first time (on the lawn at ANA headquarters, where I dropped it on the way to lunch!).

This was probably somebody pocket piece.

It could also be a Chinese Pocket Piece which is my guess.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.
