I do own the set and it is still intact. I have removed the coins from the cardboard and put into flips as some of the coins look like they had been holdered a bit too long.
Some of the better coins from the set with images by Mr. Goodman.

That's what I always thought too. If the Mint still made double mint sets we'd have a 56 coin set this year! >>
We're gettin there, just be patient!
BTW, these sets had paper sealed across one side of the cardboard to hold the coin in so the two coins per mint was so that the obverse and reverse could be displayed as Herb suggested.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

All it takes is money. The trouble comes where you have substitute coins in the holders. Finding fully original sets with matched toning is a challenge.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. Why do you say this? The Mint packaging now allows you to see both the obverse and the reverse and occasionally the edge. Do you think the quality of the coins were better? I realize that they're not silver now, but I'm sure that all the nickels are FS today. I think the coins are better struck now. To answer the OP question, all of them are official.
