For the CWT Guys.......1860 511/514 Oddity

I have an 1860 511/514 in brass.........the one I have is silvered.........Fuld shows a 515 reverse as silvered but not a 514. Do I have a Corvair or a Corvette? I'm interested to know if this die pair exists silvered also. Your help is greatly appreciated.

I would not put much stock into the fact that your Wealth of the South token is an unlisted variety when plated. This sort of this could be done after the fact or it is a different variation on the plated versus non plated piece, but I don't see collectors rushing to buy it at a premium because of that. Still most any Wealth of the South token must be thought of at least a Buick. The Corvair example I've seen was in Fair-2, and the dealer wanted $25 for it. image

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
  • It occurred to me someone could have silvered or tinned it later on..........nothing wrong with a Buick, I guess.........The piece is otherwise a no-problem XF.......THX

If the token grades EF and the plating is intact, I think you might be looking at an after the fact situation. Original totally intact plating is more a Mint State thing.

  • About 50% of the plating is missing.....mainly in the open field and on the high points of the design
