Is the new 2010 design of the cent with the shEild on the reverse the new design for long term or is it just a one year thing?

The design is "long term" unless Congress authorizes another design in the future. Steveimage

Someone posted in another thread that the design would look better once it's circulated a bit. I agree with this- not really too great as a pink uncirculated, but once they start going RB and B, they might look better, and be worthy of hanging around a while.

I doubt that our financial system will last that long. Long before 2059, I expect that one-cent coins will no longer be made.

Wow... long term views here.... someone just resurrected a gold thread from 2002, only eight years ago... and the predictions were blown away by reality today.... so, I would hesitate to even suggest what a year from now will bring. Fun to speculate, but reality bites. Cheers, RickO

I hope it stays around . This is the first redesign Ive liked so far. Nickel backs I dont like, nor the state/monument quarters. The cent has a nostalgia to the indian cent with the shield design. I wish they had put the lines in the cent like on the indian cent but I guess being so big too many lines.

Cool. I like it. I think I'll collect it. I've never collected a series from its inception. Should be fun.
