They have pretty much cleaned that industry up, the days of choking when you drove by are over. In the 70's I knew people who worked in a paper mill and I don't remember them as having toned coins, of course those were the days of dipping also.
It is still the 'days of dipping'. And to answer the original question, I grew up in a town with a large paper mill, and no, there was no significant toning. Cheers, RickO
