So I'm changing my views on dipping...

I think there are circumstances where it is ok. I have also found room in my box of 20 for these two, which I think have pretty clearly been dipped:

It's pretty hard not to love those cameos.

    Nice coins!!
  • Somebody dipped a Proof ? Seriously, though, those would make my box of 20 any day !

Dipping, like everything else, is fine, if done in moderation.

Well, not everything is fine in moderation. Killing family members, counterfeiting, heroin, et cetera are not good even in small amounts.

Dipping, though, is fine when done appropriately.

Beautiful proofs! But if dipped, then why the few spots and gold tone? Maybe a light dip if anything?

Remember that each time a coin is dipped a layer of its "skin" is taken away.
Dip it enough times and the coin will have absolutely no eye appeal and look like it was fried

What, dipped coins in PCGS plastic? Never!

"...which I think have pretty clearly been dipped...." I disagree, the light gold rim toning can be caused many ways other than dip residue.

Dipping is allowed and there are slabbed coins that have been dipped. Excessive dipping in solution that attacks metal will deteriorate the surface and the coin will appear damaged. IF - I say IF- those coins have been dipped, it has been a very mild, fast dip, with excellent post dip cleaning. Cheers, RickO

It's true that light gold rim toning can be caused by ways other than dip residue. However, still, a coin that old and that white has almost certainly been dipped.
