Some amazing Hobo/carved nickels

blu62vetteblu62vette Posts: 11,901 ✭✭✭✭✭
OK I have to admit when I started to look at these they blew my mind. The quality of these is insane. Not my coins, just my images. Some of these have gold or copper inlay. Enjoy!!

The koi pond is surreal. The image does not reflect the true depth of that one, insane.

That is major talent right there.. Imagine if those guys/gals got into altering coins for deception! Id bet they would most likely get by the graders here and there.

    Some memorizing artwork!

When looking at such skill I can't help think how many here do the same with the minute details we scrutinize over in coins. The attention we give a hobby that brings us great joy!

Too bad there are registry participants who don't share our enthusiasm and give the hobby a bad name.

Anyone thinking about buying a coin or a complete set from here or the BST forum is advised to always stop in here and use this site as a reference.

My Sister collects Modern Hobo's and has a collection of roughly 12-16 pieces.

I haven't seen the last dozen she's added and will see if I can photograph them.

Beautiful art work. Anyone know long it takes to make one and what something like this sells for?

Amazing... I would love to have one of those. Have been looking for an 'original' Hobo nickel for years, but they are really pricey... and I imagine these are as well. Would love to know the $$ for the Koi Pond nickel. Cheers, RickO

I contacted the Koi artist Ray Cover Jr. (two others did as well). He's done carving coins as there was no money in it according to him. Sad. MJ
