Opinions wanted: first ANA for long time collector

I will be attending ANA Boston next month. Up until now, the largest show I've attended is Baysatate. I will be there Tuesday-Thursday. I am a long time collector with a good knowledge of grading/type/do's and don'ts etc. I would like to get opinions from those of you who either attend these show regularly or those that have attended in the past on how to tackle such a large show/event. My main reasons for going(other than my love of coins) is to sell about ten pieces and pick up a type coin or two. Also to attend the programs and exhibits. Thanks in advance.

i think you answered your own question as to exhibitsand programs...pick the ones you like.

After that, pick the dealers who deal in the coins you have for sell and see them first...
I manage money. I earn money. I save money .
I give away money. I collect money.
I don’t love money . I do love the Lord God.

Since you will be there 3 days, I would suggest walking the entire floor once, making notes about items that you like and dealers that are handling the items that you wish to sell.

If you see something that you really like, you might try trading in some of the coins that you are trying to sell, as that eliminates one transaction.

Have a great time. This is the grand-daddy of all coin shows!!!!!!!

With three days, you can do it all... relax, enjoy the show. Cheers, RickO

Because I don't go to shows every week or month, I have had the experience of being overwhelmed by a big show, the result of which is that I neither buy nor sell anything. So I like the advice given to take your time, walk the entire floor, make notes, and then move on from there. Best of luck. I, for one, am jealous!

Many large shows provide a map of the bourse and a list of dealers and their table numbers. You should be able to get this from the ANA website before the show or maybe in booklet form at the show.

Sit down with this map and dealer directory before you go and mark those dealers you want to visit most. By doing this, you will also become familiar with the overall layout of the bourse.

If you bring reference books, auction catalogs, etc., you may want to bring a small suitcase or "carry on" style bag on wheels, or a backpack.

Be very careful about buying a coin too early in the show...you may be tempted to buy something only to find something better a day or two later. Best to hold off buying anything until you have gone over the entire bourse at least once.

On you first day you must register and then you get an ID badge so you may get on the bourse floor. When you register ask for a show booklet. That booklet has the list of all the dealers and the booth number where you can find then. Also in that booklet is a floor plan showing the numbers to find the dealers.

You can find this and all the informantion on the ANA web site www.money.org world fair of money

Just remember the bourse opens to the public at 9:30 but you can get into the exhibits at 9:00. I see that you go 09sVDB. I will have a exhibit of Matte Proof Lincolns on display that I hope you enjoy.
