Definitely a different strategy. When I'm bidding on something, I usually keep my mouth shut.

The thing about this coin is that it's not "unobtainable." I handed one when I was a dealer, and I sure wasn't anything close to being among the industry leaders. I handled a 1794 stared reverse cent too. The coins do show up from time to time in unexpected places.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
  • Do all those 1969-S DDOs have that floating roof reverse?

Well, I have the top bid of $32,500 (plus BP) right now but there are a bunch of watchers shown so I don't expect to win it.
Don't know if I'll up my bid or not. I'll sleep on it.

Yep. I looked at those a couple days ago and didn't want to go over $100,000 for the one.
The second one needs a photo to show the "scratches".

"This is the single most dramatic double die in the 100+ years of Lincoln Cents."

The statement above settles it. The 1955 double die is dramatic dog food.

    Congratulations,barbershopper
I wasn't sure how high it would go for with that many members tracking it.
I felt my bid was right in line with the PCGS price guide.
    Nice coin!

There are only 2-3 dozen certified for now. They likely include resubmissions.

I usually double the certified number to reach a reasonable figure for the total.

Well, remember when the 1896, 1900, abd 1902 "mico-o" Morgan dollars were rare sought-after VAMs,
and then one day somebody realized they were all vintage counterfeits ?

The entire 1969 DDO Lincoln affair looks and smells fishy to me.

Interesting observation. As was the case in the early 70's a cloud of suspicion seems to follow this coin. I remember two points that were constantly mentioned with regards to it's manufacture (minting), a roller press and Mort Goodman.
