Seriously????

I've been selling a bit of my inventory to fund other card purchases and to just clean out the closet. A few weeks ago I listed 20+ cards all starting at 99 cents, just hoping to move 'em. I had no problems collecting payment (I rarely do... lucky me) except for 1 card. eBay bidder jay82dogs was the high bidder for this 99 cent winning bid:
Auction Link
I send an invoice two times and hear nothing. I then opened a non-paying bidder case and finally got payment yesterday for $2.99, almost 2 weeks after the auction ended. I sent him an email that I'll get the card out tomorrow(today). Here's the email dialogue:
Message from jay82dogs via PayPal: hello there its jason please send the card first class usps with insurance??. also please put actual bubblewrap round the case so it doesnt come damaged thanks alot Jason.
Me: I'll get the card out in the mail tomorrow to you. For insurance, please send $1 more. But, for a 99 cent card, not sure if it is worth it. I'll wrap it really well. Let me know about the insurance.
jay82dogs: Hello there its Jason I am really tight on money right now is there any way that you can please just pay for it??. thanks alot Jason.
I use bubble mailers that cost me 88 cents each, postage is 82 cents, and I have to drive to the post office. I charge fair and reasonable shipping fees. I want to cover my expenses and not make money on that part of the auction. The auction clearly states that insurance is additional.
So, here's my problem. I take my 100% feedback seriously and I don't want someone like jay82dogs to ruin it because I didn't throw in insurance on his 99 cent card. What should I do? Pay for the insurance? Get delivery confirmation only to prove he gets it, but no insurance? Just send it as stated in the auction and as he paid for it? The issue isn't the money per se, but its the principle.

Edited to add: And I completely agree with Steve.
What you're not allowed to charge
Insurance: You can't charge a separate fee for insurance, although you still need to make sure your item arrives as described.

<< <i>.....I use bubble mailers that cost me 88 cents each......... >>
There is absolutely no excuse for paying that much these days.
nam812 - Where do you get your bubble mailers? I'm always looking to save some money. I get the size "0" envelopes (6"x 9" size) from OfficeMax. They come 25 to a box for $22. Works out to 88 cents each.
HERE
<< <i>eSupplyStore - #00 5x10 - 100 count for about $20 with shipping. That's 20 cents each........... >>
The "prices" are better at eSupply, but the free shipping at RoyalMailers is what makes them less expensive (for me at least).
250ct #0 mailers at eSupply = $29.00 + $13.82 shipping (your zip code may change this price) = $42.82 which is 17.128 cents each
250ct #0 mailers at RoyalMailers = $34.99 - 10% disc. $3.50 + free shipping = $31.49 which is 12.596 cents each
Edited to correct RoyalMailers pricing.
Edited to add: Checking out RoyalMailers now too.
The mailers are thinner than the ones from eSupply and the glue is not as strong. I personally have used both and never had a problem with either.
In other words 99.9 or 99.8 or 99.7 is not a BAD feedback rating.
Shane
"...the free shipping at RoyalMailers is what makes them less expensive (for me at least)...."
///////////////////////////
Yup.
They sometimes have "specials" for CU members; inquire before ordering.
Shipping is super fast.
RoyalMailers
I've decided to send the card with Delivery Confirmation. So, I'll eat a little on that. I guess since I'm already losing on the card (I paid for the grading on a monthly special a few years ago), what's another 49 cents. At least I'll be able to prove he got it. Adding jay82dogs to my blocked bidders will at least prevent me from dealing with him again.
<< <i>......They sometimes have "specials" for CU members; inquire before ordering.......... >>
I called RoyalMailers directly once, and they permanently installed the 10% discount into my account. Now when I log in and shop their site, the 10% off shows up at checkout for me every time.
<< <i>......... I'm just excited to be saving so much as compared to OfficeMax............. >>
So you used to get 25 #0 mailers for $22, and now you can get 250 of them for only $31.49. What a world.
Edited to correct the RoyalMailer price to $31.49.
After I slammed the case with a hammer.
That's how I roll.
Steve
<< <i>VALUEMAILERS is a good source for bubble mailers as well. They offer free shipping as well, and are cheaper than Royal Mailers. >>
Did you even check before posting that? On earth $34.95 is not cheaper than $32.99
250ct #0 mailers at eSupply = $29.00 + $13.82 shipping (your zip code may change this price) = $42.82 which is 17.128 cents each
250ct #0 mailers at RoyalMailers = $34.99 - 10% disc. $3.50 + free shipping = $31.49 which is 12.596 cents each
250ct #0 mailers at ValueMailers = $34.95 + no discount + free shipping = $34.95 which is 13.98 cents each
RoyalMailers is still the cheapest.
Edited to correct RoyalMailers pricing.
<< <i>On earth... >>
<< <i>250ct #0 mailers at RoyalMailers = $32.99 - 10% disc. $3.30 + free shipping = $29.69 which is 11.876 cents each >>
I don't know what website YOU went on Mr.Know-It-All, but RoyalMailers are $34.99 for 250 of them..........I just went to the website and saw it....do YOU think before posting???? I think you got confused and were comparing the #00 on Royal Mailers. Those are actually $32.99.....
There's been alot of discussion about bubble mailers lately.
<< <i>I prefer the #000 4"x7.5" mailers, and I used to get them for $0.44/each, so I'm loving RoyalMailers.com now, thanks Nam! >>
You're welcome. When I order, I always get #000 and #0.
It's all so cheap that when I ship I put the graded card in the #000 (i use it as my "bubble wrap") and then I put that "package" into the #0 mailer.
Total weight of a graded card + 2 bubble mailers? Only 2.3 ounces, and I never have to buy bubble wrap (or try to cut it).
<< <i>........I think you got confused and were comparing the #00 on Royal Mailers. Those are actually $32.99..... >>
Yes the #0 are $34.99, not $32.99 like originally stated. Your site is a whopping 4 cents cheaper for the whole 250, not per mailer. The bad news for you is that they do not offer a 10% discount, thus making RoyalMailers still cheaper.
Please stay with ValueMailers and pay more so we can look forward to your next pity party thread where you cry about how much it costs you to ship. Those never get old.
<< <i>So technically, VALUEMAILERS is just as cheap as ROYALMAILERS. I am not talking about any perceived 10% extra discount that apparently some people get. I was just trying to give people other options. I have never used RoyalMailers so don't know how cheaply made their mailers are, but Valuemailers are pretty good mailers. Like I said, I was just trying to give other people OPTIONS, and this guy (Nam) jumps down my throat..........I don't appreciate it. >>

I have not used VALUEMAILERS, but the 10% off for CU folks
makes ROYALMAILERS real cheap.
And, the service is super FAST.
The quality of the products at RM is HIGH.

jay82dogs: Hello there its Jason I got card and the case has a microscratch. probably caused by bubblewrap being used upside down. called PSA and cost to reholder will be $21.95 plus my cost to ship the card to them express registered insured. never had to leave negative before please advise

Now now Bobby, you were a little out of line yourself.
Also can I get that link or auction number?
Steve
They're a little pricier
But boy you should see the feedback I get
<< <i>I almost always self insure. It's just easier. I also stopped selling 99 cent cards as singles. I just take a loss and sell them as larger lots. Easier that way as all the individual packagings are a pain in the butt. I try to make everything at least ten dollars or more per auction. >>
And with that, Larry Allen has just identified a key way to discern between people who work more than 30 hrs. a week and enjoy their family's company, and those that do not.
As for selling .99 cards, I rarely sell anything under $50 on eBay. Just not worth the trouble. The only time I'll sell a low dollar item is if I'm doing it for more of a publicity listing to see if I can draw out certain collectors.

Use Ebay/Paypal's "print postage" feature and you'll only have to pay 19 cents for d/c.

STAY AWAY from this guy!
Anyone who would make those kinds of demands for 99 cents - is totally, totally, totally nuts! Some people have a really interesting sense of entitlement.
