Anyone here follow 1971 o-pee-chee hockey ?

I noticed some crazy buying lately. A Reggie Leach PSA 9 sold for over 1,000. Some other low pop commons
are finishing close to 1,000 each. Even some of the PSA 8's are going for crazy money. Good time to be a seller of that issue.

That's really cool news about the Leach. I was wondering when that card would get some respect, lol. image
  • 71 has always been very popular. I didn't notice the huge prices but I can believe it. There have been several big $$ sales of early OPC lately. Not just 71. Must be time to sub a bunch of my raw 71s. Any checklist #111 sales lately? That's always been the card in the set to have (besides the Orr and Dryden).

I had to pay handsomely to land PSA 8 '71 OPC LaFleur and Dionne rookies recently. I think the boom extends beyond '71 OPC to 70's and earlier hockey in general. It wasn't that long ago that hockey was underpriced, but those days are long gone.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."
  • There are a few new people who have started collecting this set and are paying top dollar for cards. I remember when it was me and one other person and we could get series 1 PSA 9's for about $75.00 now low pop series 1s can fetch around $500. Most of the top prices are for series 1's with the odd series 2 fetching top dollar. The last Checklist 111 in PSA 8 went for around $1200. I am in the prcess of selling a bunch of 7's on ebay right now and I am surprised at some of the bids.
  • Glad I've got the HOF RC's from that set already. Prices have definitely been on the upswing over the past few months. Nice to see actually. Should actually promote some new stock to hit the market -- there's got to be a heap of late 60's and early 70's raw material out there.
Collecting HOF RC's in hockey, baseball, football and basketball. A fool's errand some have said.
