Remember those 2006 three piece ASE anniversary sets?

Anyone know what they are selling for these days? Is there any premium for the never opened sets? Where would be the best place to sell them? The reason I'm asking is that I have an unopened box of ten that I've had since I bought it from the mint in 2006 strictly as an investment. Would this be a good time to sell them or should I hold onto them for future appreciation? All opinions greatly appreciated.

The big money vs. time has passed you by.

I'd pay $260 ea today for fresh problem free sets.

Just like most recent Mint products, the anniversary set is no exception.

    Sealed boxes .... about $350
    Unsealed sets......$250 - $300

Still not bad ... I believe the issue price was $100 per set. (can't remember for sure)

Yes. They were $100 from the mint and there was a limit of 10. Some dealers refered to the sealed box of 10 sets as a "Judas Box" since they contained 30 pieces of silver. I guess if there is ever a big promotion (HSN, QVC, etc) the prices may go back up at least until the promotion has run its course.

Dabigkahuna has a buy offer for these on the BST.
He's always great to deal with.

The ones that I have are still sealed in the original box. They could all be spotted or they could all be perfect MS/PF70's or something in between. Who knows until you open them up.

I had a several unopened sets I bought from the mint... they were stored well (I thought)... anyways I decided to open a box before I moved last November... I was horrified... 'pink toning'... (but no spots) I had them stored in different locations so maybe I'll get lucky with a couple of them... but I wish I would have sold them while the going was good.

On the bright side I also opened a box of Z6F's... and they were fine.

Yup & I sold a wagon load of PCGS 69's rev prf & ms for over $400 each..."Those were the days my friend".. Yes, 2006 was a banner year for the Mint & collectors.

That might be a little strong but it would be hard to let go of 'em for 350...not.

I remember distinctly that Mad Marty had one sell unopened for $900. I believe he posted the auction or someone else did on the forums.

the "first strike" date became even more important when PCGS started to allow the burnished MS of this set a grade of 70. it was announced late June or early July, 2007. a couple of them went for moon money, even the non-FS MS70's did, somewhere around $5k.

I wonder if the Mint will have a 25th Anniv. Gold or Silver set next year.

PGGS is labelling the 2010 ASE as 25th Year Anniversary.

I see...25th year of issue & not anniversary... and if I recall, they labeled some of the 2005's as 20th Anniversary? or was it issue image

  • Perry, I'd hang onto them for a little while longer (unless you absolutely must sell) and see what the Mint is doing to do with 2010 proofs. If the burnished and proof ASE's go another year (or more), I feel the folks that missed out on the Anniversary Sets will be looking to complete their collections for what may or may not be end of the series beyond bullion issues. Might not be the post-issue high prices, but you should do a little better than the current market is bearing. Just my 2 cents.

Are early-postmarked unopened boxes still eligible for First Strike designation? And are unopened boxes still eligible for the "20th Anniversary" designation on all the coins in the set?

If so, it might be worthwhile to submit unopened boxes for grading.

Thanks for everyones input and opinions. I decided to sell them to Dabigkahuna. His offer seems fair and he appears to be a reliable buyer.

  • What's the best way to get a spot free set at this point or reverse proof at this point? Are the graded reverse proofs still safer from NGC?

I bought one set to see if I'd like it. I liked it, so I bought 4 more. If I'd been really smart, I'd have bought 25 or 30 more yet.image

I still have the three piece AGE 20th anniversary set that I bought in 2006 from the mint. I opened the set and all the coins appear to me to be perfect but I'm no expert at grading high end moderns. Anyone know what these sets are going for these days?

Looks like ebay auction results are around $4,500 to $4,800 for sets in OGP. Not an abundance of data, though. Not too many sales, but some.
